Hey folks,

Hoping to head down to the HH/Savannah area in April to see The Heritage tournament. Would also like to experience playing a couple of rounds while I'm there.

Looking for a couple of nice courses, ideally: public, <$100 greens fee, slope 125-135.

Open to restaurant ideas, too!

Thanks in advance,

TW

I just played the wilmington island golf course last month. Its an old donald ross design and i thoroughly enjoyed it! It was not very expensive but the course was in great shape and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Its hard to find info nonline about this course, but i recommend it.

The Crab ShaCk just outside Tybee Island. Best seafood in Georgia. Period.

Our favourite course this year was Old South.

Try Blowin Smoke BBQ in Savannah.....get the Jumbo Beef Ribs, you won't be sorry.

For Happy Hour, I recommened Aunt Chilada's in HH..... try the grilled wings.

I go to HHI annually with family. Golf isn't cheap there in general, so your price range may not be realistic unless you drive pretty far off the island, esp during Heritage week i'd imagine.

My favorite courses are at Palmetto dunes, esp the Robert Trent Jones course. Playable "resort course" at first gradually turns into quite a beast with tons of water, some forced carries/long Par 3's, etc. 10th hole par 5 is one of the few on the island (surprisingly) with an ocean view and you have gorgeous views from the green. The Fazio Course at Palmetto dunes is OK but a tougher test. I've not played the Arthur Hills there. They often do have multi-day packages esp if you're staying within the resort.

Favorite restaurant by far is Marley's, fun Caribbean-inspired food, cool atmosphere, yet also very family friendly. Red Fish is supposed to be excellent, although I've not eaten there as it's not exactly kid-friendly. Unfortunately there's a lot more in the way of mediocre seafood places on HHI, and everyone you ask will tell you a different place (I think Steamers in Coligny Plaza is fairly dependable, but certainly not outstanding). For comfort food you have to try Barbara Jean's, which has a location in Bluffton.

I played The River Club in Pawley's Island, SC. It is equally beautiful as it is tough. Lots of risk/rewards shots over water. Worth every penny.

Thanks for the course and restaurant recommendations.

The price of my flight just dropped significantly so I booked it. Looking forward to seeing this part of the country for the first time.

Will read up on the courses and establishments. Keep the ideas coming...

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
