WOW, what a beautiful course. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, it is tough but almost breathtaking with the layout. Not an easy course with lots of trees and some smaller greens. There is some water on the course and well placed bunkers. The only problem with the course is the bugs. Plenty of gnats and other flying creatures that stayed in and around your face and ears. That was disturbing. But not even that could take away from the scenery.

Tee Boxes – We played from the Blue Tees and probably should have stayed with the whites. Our handicap would point us toward the whites but I like playing a little further out. Some elevated boxes and some were still damp. We’ve had an awful lot of rain in the past two months.

Fairways - The fairways are nice. Again, some of the fairways were damp due to all the rain but most were in good shape. A good mix of wide landing areas and narrow openings. There should be no reason to miss a fairway but I did, a couple of times. Once the ball goes into the woods there is no way to get it back.

Greens – The greens were in pretty good shape. A few bad places but it’s just now heating up here so they should start to fill in nicely. Some were tough, some were small but they all rolled just about the same and I appreciate that.

How did I play?

Front nine - Shot a 48. 6 of 7 fairways hit, 4 of 9 GIR and 16 Putts.
My drives were the most inconsistent of the year. I either blocked out right and hooked the ball. Other than that, I played ok on the front with a couple of shots at birdie. I hit my short irons and wedges ok but I need some work. Mid to long irons was pretty good. Putting was decent. Again, I missed several opportunities to score really well.

Back nine - Shot a 47. 5 of 7 fairways hit, 1 of 9 GIR and 19 Putts.
I never could get to the green. Second shot was all over the place. Again I have no idea what was going on. Wedge play was decent when I got close. I actually pitched it close a few times but just couldn’t finish. I had several missed opportunities.

Overall. We played 18 in 4 hours and 10 minutes. Again, I felt like I could have scored really well if I could have gotten to the green and putted well. I really enjoyed playing this course. I will play the whites next time and instead of having a 150 to 180 yard second shot I should have a 130 to 150 yard shot. Beautiful course and challenging as any I’ve played.

Score: 95
11 of 14 Fairways Hit
Only 5 GIR, embarrassing
35 Putts, I know and still don’t get any better.

Driver: 9.5 Titleist 910, Fairway Woods: G2 3 wood and 5 woods
Irons: Titleist CB712
Wedges: 52 - Vokey, 56 - Vokey Raw,
Putter: Odyssey White Hot #1
Ball: NXT Tour

    • Day 133 (25 Apr 24) - Worked with the Divot Board today added a piece of cardboad behind the ball to help reinforce ball first contact. Contact improved through the round.   Added grandson's football goal posts about 10yds out to add a good start line visual Good session today.
    • Day 120: 4/25/24 Full Speed Spectrum training session. Low energy today and my speed was lower than normal. Will see what I can do on Saturday.
    • Day 541, April 25, 2024 Ten minutes after lessons. Still not caught up, but should be by tomorrow evening.
    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
