Hi, I am new here and am trying to get some information on shaft options as I am getting ready to order a new set. I am currently playing the original Callaway X forged in a PX flighted 5.0. My swing speed on an 7 iron is 88 mph and I hit the ball pretty high as I like to get down into the ball rather than sweep it off the turf. I am getting ready to purchase a set of Titleist AP2 710's. I can either get the px non flighted 5.5 or the now standard DG s300. I would lean towards the PX non flighted but just want to make sure. I dont think the jump from 5.0 to 5.5 is going to make that much of a difference as I probably should have been playing that stiffness all along. Any insight would help.

I currently play the same clubs as you but with the non-flighted PX 6.5's. I am demo'ing a set of Nike Pro Cavity for a few weeks with True Temper Dynalite Stiff. I have to say... they're pretty refreshing. I tried the Flighted PX's when I bought my Callaways and I hit them way too high. What is your typical miss with your current clubs?

The DG model shafts have a high kickpoint, which would help you keep the ball down a little on all your irons.
It's interesting you hit the ball really high w/7i, as flighting is supposed to lessen ballooning on short irons. As you say, a shift from 5.0 to 5.5 should lower the ball flight due to extra stiffness. (Search on past posts to find the stiffness comparison between PX and DG shafts)
Key thing would be to test different shafts in the Titleist AP2 head; larger shops have Titleist test boxes that allow you to swap out shafts on the type of iron head you're considering.
Given you're an 8 HDCP, you might consider a dynamic fitting (will cost some $$) to see just what you need.
My basic miss is a pull about 10 yards of center. I really haven't paid a lot of attention to the height as I have always hit a high shot. I have never felt though that it was too high. I tried a set of R9 tp last year with the stiff KBS shaft in them and hated them. Played them for about a month and shot distance was never consistent. Most shots were long but then you would adjust for it and co e up way short. I think the cast head really had me confused. Who knows. Went back to my Callaways and everything was great. I just want a new set that is a little more forgiving. My 7 iron is a carry of about 165.

must have been the r9s, ive got the kbs shaft and love them! If you get custom fit you can try all different shafts and get them on a launch monitor!
