Has anyone hit the R11 Hybrid?  I'm looking to get it, or something similar to fill a gap in my bag.  I've hit other TaylorMade hybrids and absolutely loved them.  Currently, I have a 15 degree Titleist 905 3-wood that goes 280-290.  My next longest club would be my 3-iron which flies 240-250 and stops.  So what can I get to fill this 250-270 yard black hole in my bag? Something around 19 degrees maybe?

Ball striking is the best part of my game.  However, I have a lot of lag and hit down on the ball at a really steep angle which gives me a higher launch angle than I'd like despite X shafts and using the Pro V1x.  I thought this might have a factor in my decision making when choosing what club would be best.

My old stuff I still use:

Irons - Titleist DCI 981 (1998)
Putter - Odyssey 2-Ball DFX
Wedges - Cleveland Rg. 588 (47º, 52º, 54º, 57º)
Driver - Taylormade r7 Quad (2004)
Ball - Pro V1x

I'm assuming you're talking about the Rescue 11 hybrid and not the R11 fairway wood, correct? It looks like the 18* 3h would be a great option for you. My friend recently got both the R11 driver and 16* Rescue 11 (in lieu of a 3w) and talked about them nonstop when we played this morning.

Yeah I meant the Rescue 11.  I feel like if you're not a professional, you're at a disadvantage if you don't have a hybrid... they're just so easy to hit and control!
I'm looking at new drivers too.  I have an R7 from 2005 right now, and after I hit the R11 last week, I think it'd be a smooth transition.  I felt like I could get a higher club head speed with the same exact swing (when compared to the R7).  I'd need the 8 degree though because I ballooned the 9 degree despite it having an X shaft.

I've only been back in the game for 3 weeks now, but my swing is strangely better than it ever was - I'm just hitting it into the stratosphere : /

Agreed, but I think there's a minority on this board that prefers 2-irons or whatever. I would also check out the Titleist 910D2 in addition to the R11 since you're looking for something adjustable. Best of luck with your search.

Jesus Christ that's a nice swing.

I think an 18* would be good - what loft is your 3 iron? 21* ?

Thanks!
My 3 - iron is 22 degrees.  I've had them for about 12 years now.  They've been refurbished 3 times and went from 1 inch shorter to standard length (I was 10 when I got them).
I'm 6' 1" now, and based on how they feel, I bet it'd help a ton of they were bent 1 degree stronger and extended by half an inch or so... that's probably why I'm getting so steep - I have to stand pretty close to the ball.

I'm going to Edwin Watts Thursday, so hopefully they can put me on a launch monitor and assess what's going on!

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
