I currently have a mint set of Titleist DCI's 3-SW and I hit them fairly well. I was curious if any of you have played these clubs and think that the MP-57's are a big enough upgrade to justify the money. I hit both well and the MP-57's are stunning. Just curious of anyone has experience with both (outside of the store net)

I played a few rounds with some Titleist DCI irons back in high school. From that moment on, I pined for a set of Titleist irons of my own... until I hit some MP-57s. I really love the Mizunos. When you pure one, they feel marginally better than than the Titleists I played, and in my experience they've been a bit more forgiving as well. Not to mention they look better than the DCIs.

Plus, you're asking about keeping what you've got or getting a new set of clubs. We all know what you REALLY want to do!

As far as it being worth the money, though? I guess that depends on what kind of price you're getting on them. If you feel it is a decent price, I'd go for it. I had a set of irons that were just a couple years old when I ran across my MP-57s. They were used, but had only seen two rounds and the 4, 5, 6, and 9 irons had never even been hit. I got a killer deal that I couldn't pass up .

That's a decent price on them. It's really up to you in the end, but I'd pick 'em up! If you play a few rounds or whatnot and decide you like the Titleists better, you can always sell the MP-57s.

The MP57 is a great club, but I also really liked the 962 for the 10 years it was in my bag.  Something to consider - what do you require for irons to fit well?  I'm a big proponent of finding something that works and sticking with it, but I'm also cheap.

An off the rack set is expensive to make fit (in my case about $200 for bend, grips and lengthen), which makes switching clubs a bit costly. If your standard/standard/standard, this is obviously a mute point.

I'd take the time to make sure the shafts in the MP57 are what you'll need.  If you've been playing the same shafts for years, chances are something might work better.  If they are still a good fit and wont require a bunch of adjustments, give them a shot.  The MP57s are great feeling and playing clubs.

I played with those DCI 962's for a number of years too.  I have never played better golf in my life then when I was using those clubs!  Unfortunately that probably had more to do with having tons of free time in high school!  I thought those clubs and the Tommy Armour Silver Scot 845's were the best clubs at the time.

That said, they became quite worn and I upgraded to the 735.CM's and like them a lot.

Hard for me to give a great opinion as I've never played the MP-57's, but if you have a great condition set of DCI's, hard not to play with those as they are a great set of clubs.

I bought the MP-57's since I can resell them on ebay for more than I paid. I am taking both to the range for a side by side test. I hit the 7-9-PW for about 20 balls on the range and I must say so far so good.

    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
