My 11 year old son struggles with his driver consistency. His miss is left. Generally a hook or pull draw type of flight. Looking for opinions on tweaking his swing a little. Thanks!

I would try to have him bend at the waist a little more. He's almost straight up.

Best Regards,
Ryan

I would say that he needs to be fitted for a driver ..that thing is clearly too long/heavy.

Great swing for a younger player!  Keep encouraging him as he works on a few changes.

There are a few things I'd work on ingraining early in his swing:

1.  At setup get him to bend a bit more at the waist and feel more weight on the balls of his feet.

2.  Help him work on turning his shoulders steeper (around his spine).  Right now it's a bit too flat.

3.  Work on impact.  He isn't moving his hips forward toward the target, causing him to flip (hook) through the ball rather than leading with his left hand.

later

5.  The clubhead is getting inside pretty quick.  Cocking the left wrist up will help here, but that is later on in the list of things to look at.

If I have time tonight, I'll throw things in analyzer and give you a few visuals.

Thanks, those are great observations. I appreciate the time. Visuals would be very helpful. Thanks again!

Try shortening his backswing. On the practice range, do not allow that left arm to travel past parallel to the ground. Have him take a nice and slow back swing up to parallel and then attack as hard as he can at the inside portion of the ball. Also, keep his weight in the heels of his feet, not the balls as mentioned above. When he gets to the course, let him loosen up and take a nice full easy swing and watch as he effortlessly smashes the ball off the tee :).

    • Day 2: did my Evolver drill in the mirror.  No club, just did the motion. And this time I am confident I am doing it correctly.
    • Nothing is assured and lots of talented young athletes in many sports fail to achieve greatness. as was said, injuries, growth, lots of things can come into play, And let’s let honest, over the years a few players have been branded “The Next Tiger Woods” and yet there is only 1 Tiger Woods. My initial point was if he can do a great breakout it may capture the attention of a new generation.  Back in the 70s it was Secretariat in horse racing, we also had Jordan in basketball and let’s not forget Tiger for golf.  Stories get people interested and I think golf needs a new story. I will pull for him and hope it works out but there are so many factors that come into play you just do not know, But I can hope.
    • Day 114: 4/19/24 Chipping and putting practice. Tried a little hinge and hold with good results, which has never been the case during a real round. Playing tomorrow and eager to play.
