Proforce V2 wood shaft in a hybrid?

Thanks for any input folks!  I have a 20* DWS Baffler that I'd like to game and a spare V2 shaft.  They are both 335 tip, and the 65 gram weight would match the OEM shaft weight in the DWS better than the 75+ Proforce options for hybrids.  My two questions are #1 have any of you added a fairway shaft to a hybrid head with any success?  #2  Would soft stepping it an inch bring it from stiff to regular flex?  (those terms of course being relative to each manufacturers specs).

I'm looking for more of a mid trajectory than I'm currently getting  with this club.  I'd like to have it punch out there 190-200 and hit with a hard forward kick.  That's the type of trajectory I want on some tee shots where tight fairways and/or wind come into play. The stock regular shaft on the 20* just spins too much for me, and it goes virtually the same distance as my 23* hybrid.

As a brief background, I carry a 23* DWS in the same model with stock  regular shaft.  I love the way it launches smooth and high with little effort.  It goes about 190 on the fly and stops on a dime on the green.  For lay up shots in the fairway add about 10 yards of roll with a draw, and off the tee it goes about 210 total.  All these figures are about 5-10 yards farther than with my 24* 4 iron but on a higher trajectory.  I still carry both the 4 iron and 4 hybrid because of the variations in shots I can play between the two.....plus I have the bag space.

I'm not sure how much performance difference there really is between fairway and hybrid shafts. That said, I have a couple of questions. Is the shaft you have a new raw shaft or was it used in another club. Second question is do you know what your driver swing speed is ?

It is currently in an old G5 driver and I know it was tip cut 1" already.  As for swing speed, I've not had it measured in over a year.  At that time it hovered around 90mph.  But in the past year I have deffinately picked up speed through some minor swing changes.  I know from GPS measurings I am carrying the driver 230-240 with 10-30 yards of roll on flat fairways.  Im averaging 250-260 total on solid hits, with my 7 iron at 155-160 and PW at 125.  I suspect I have gotten up to 95 m.p.h. and maybe 98-100 in the middle of a round after loosening up but before fatigue sets in.

Well, if you don't mind experimenting with the V2 shaft knowing it may not work well, you can leave the tip alone and butt trim for a total length (including the club head) of 40.5 to 41 inches. After checking it out some more, the V2 and V2 hybrid are actually different shafts in that they start life at different raw lengths. The V2 is 46 inches long and the V2 hybrid is 44 inches long. You would normally tip trim the V2 1.5 inches for a 19/20* head and the V2 hybrid only a half inch for the same loft. So the flex profile of the shafts is quite different. You can cut more off of the V2 but it won't be the same flex profile. You can put a 3 wood on that shaft (and butt trim to the correct length) and it should work well but the hybrid is a different story. By the way, on either the V2 or V2 hybrid, a swing speed of 95mph is right on the cusp between regular and stiff. If you are not spraying the ball, the regular will give you a little added distance. If you are spraying the ball, the stiff will give you a tighter dispersion.

Thanks R11, that pretty much confirms the way I interpreted the trimming instructions too.  Ive also thought about putting it in my 7 wood which I carry now, but I only hit that club once every 2 or 3 rounds.  It just launches too high for me on level ground and also pretty much duplicates my 4 hybrid in distance.  It is also harder to hit off a downhill lie than a hybrid.  I suppose I'd just like to use this shaft on some club, because I always liked how tight of a pattern it gave in that old driver.  I know the stock DWS length for that club is 40.5" but I might cut it 41".  I'm trying to fit something between my 40" 23* hybrid and 42" 16.5* 4 wood.
