training exercise hitting draws

Light grip. The weight of the club will naturally turn over if you let it.

hey guys,

I relax my shoulders, waggle and make sure to have a light grip. Then concentrate on relaxed breathing to release all tension from my body.

When practicing try putting a ball towards the inside of your right foot (if you're right handed), then force yourself to hit it straight. You'll need to drop your club flatter and close the face really fast. It'll feel weird, but it helped me get the feeling. On the course I think of hitting the ball at that position and that really helps me mentally to start my release earlier.

I also lineup a bit right of the target and ensure my shoulders are inline with my feet. I then take back the club inline with my feet and shoulders, stay on that plane, which helps me hit inside to out for a nice draw.

Take regular stance, then rotate your body clockwise (if RH) so your feet are now perpendicular to your target line so your back is facing your target.

Then make practice swings down that original line along the left side of your body. It'll force you to turn your right hand over through the impact zone. Make practice swings like this, then take your regular stance parallel to the target line and hit the ball.

The only problem you run into doing this is once you return to your normal setup, the body no longer forces the hands to turn and you will probably not have changed anything. I guess if you set up with your back to the target on the course then you would be ok.

The idea is to feel the sensation of your right hand turning over left hand.

Don't knock it until you've tried it 4sshat.

I understand the theory of what you are saying, the only problem with it is that when you stand with your back to the target, your body forces your hands to turn over. Once you take your normal setup position, the body no longer forces the hands to turn over. So all that practice you did looking like an idiot on the range hitting balls with your back to the target ultimately did nothing for you. I understand that this approach is a first grade swing fix, but it really isnt effective. You would have been much better off telling him to make sure that his left forearm(for a righty) was facing the ground after impact. If that is a technique that you actually use yourself, then I would really have to question the validity of your posted handicap.

I have that same problem man. My tendencies are to open up my shoulders and not feel the release of the club head through impact. Which results in a block to the right.

Loosen your grip pressure and you will notice how the club seems to release on its own. And i would say to open your stance a bit to. That will allow you to swing through the ball.

you're right that the body no longer forces your hands to turn over, but the body also does not dictate what your hands do unless you've got hands coming out of your man boobs.

The body doesn't dictate what the hands do??? Tell that to anyone with a one plane swing and they will laugh at you. Ever hear an instructor say "stay connected"? Ever seen anyone put a glove under their lead arm to help the stay connected through the swing? Do you even golf????

I am done arguing with this idiot, because we are starting to get way off topic. You can take his advice if you would like, but I wouldnt recommend it.
