I just picked up a Ping G5 3 wood and 5 wood on a closeout deal and was just wondering:

Is there typically a distance gap between a 5 wood and a 21 degree 3-iron for most people? Also, what distance gap is typical between a 15 degree 3 wood and 18 degree 5 wood?

If there's a gap, would the best plug be a 19 degree or 22 degree hybrid?

You should be fine with the 5 wood to 3 iron. I hit my 2 iron/5 wood/17 degree hybrid all about the same yardage (225) which is about one club higher than my 3 iron (212). The gap from 3 wood to 5 wood is @ 15-20 yards for me (225 versus 240).

no matter what degree your 3 iron comes in at I would strongly recommend picking up a 21 degree hybrid. My 3 iron is 22 degrees, my baffler hybrid is 21 degrees and I can tell you the shot capabilities of both clubs are totally different. The hybrid stretches out from 205-215, while the 3 iron is from 200-210... but i never hit the 3 iron out of the rough. Rough, bunker, long fairway, long par 3 off the tee.. always hybrid.

Obviously there would be somewhat of a gap between a 3 wood/5 wood and 5 wood/ 3 iron respectively but there shouldn't be a large one. If there is a large gap between, say your 5 wood and 3 iron I'd consider ditching the 3 iron for a 3 hybrid.
