Best Golf in March

Some buddies and I are really getting the itch to tee it up. We would like to take a quick trip at the beginning of March. I was wondering where you think the best place to go to would be? Some thoughts about the trip. We are looking to fly in Friday night, golf 36 Saturday, 18 Sunday and fly home Sunday night. Looking for resonably priced course (whatever that maybe, under $100?) Looking for somwhere with dependable weather.

Two places we are thinking about are Alabama and Austin TX. I don't know much about Austin but I heard it's a great town with good golf. Florida seems to expensive.

Thanks for your input

Re: Best Golf in March

I am going to the Sandhills region of NC (Pinehurst area) during the last week of February, hopefully the weather will be good... average high is about 60.

This obviously is probably not a good choice for you as you want to play 36 on Saturday... meaning the first tee time will be early.

Desert areas probably most expensive...
Florida or SoCal being a distant second...
Georgia, Alabama, or Mississippi being the best bet for mostly dependable weather and somewhat affordable prices... here are some websites I came across...

note: I have used none of these travel services, they are just a place to start looking.

Re: Best Golf in March

March is still high season in Arizona and Palm Springs. Probably Florida too. I'd recommend Alabama. Looks like you are coming from the midwest so flights to Montgomery, Birmingham, or Mobile shouldn't be too difficult.

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail www.rtjgolf.com has some great course and are good values. I played Grand National last year and am going back to play some others this year.

I can also recommend the Gulf Shores area which has some great courses like Kiva Dunes, www.kivadunes.com but the prices will generally be higher than most of the RTJ golf trail courses.

Have you considered Myrtle Beach? Lots of courses to choose from for every budget.

San Antonio is great for these trips. I went in early March last year and the weather was great and the golf very reasonable. The Quarry, The Republic and a few others are near the airport as well. Give it a look, there are a few websites that specialize in San Antone golf.
