  1. I know, and I'm cool with that. I can see why you'd find it excruciating.

  3. I think that's the chaos and fun of it. I think then it's more than they're tilting at windmills, that they possibly could, and aren't, is part of the fun. I think if they just approached it methodically and logically they'd get there and I wouldn't enjoy it.
  4. @iacas thank you so much for the commentary here. I really enjoy the podcast, fwiw, because they're tilting at windmills, which they do with a bit of charisma and a good mix of humour/seriousness. But having got to the end of the last season, and then reading through this thread, your 'commentary' on it made it even more enjoyable. Thanks, made me smile a lot, I hope you keep it going.
  5. Yes, massively. Have started getting my short game in order (glaring weakness) and a series of lessons and swing changes mean I have way more control over low point and therefore striking.
  6. Firstly, an amateur player would cover the low amateur at Augusta up to 36+ handicappers. As as 18 with a fairly analytical mind I think you need to keep a couple of things in mind. 1) Junk in -> Junk out. If I hit my 7i 160, 160, 170 and hit a fat shot that goes 30 yards, the average is 130. I'm not setting up 130 out with a 7i. You've got to know what the data means, not just what the data is. 2) the standard deviations are just much bigger, more errors, less reliability, more variation. So just because you set up for a certain shot a certain way, and it didn't work out, doesn't mean it was the wrong choice. With those 2 things in mind it is really helpful for me.
  7. Mucked around for years playing every few years. Busted my knee and was told golf was OK so went down to a social comp. First round 118 with (somehow) a birdie on 18.
  8. 10th round of the season on the weekend. 1 birdie on 11 and parred the last 2 holes I'd not parred yet. Up to 5 birdies and an eagle. Hope to get to 12 holes under par by the end of the year.
  9. The green one allows your aim or start line, or some combination of the two, to be off by more because you can be wrong and hit more of the hole. @iacas this presumes pretty good speed control (on a 5' putt that's a pretty fair presumption)? Thanks for the post. Is a really nice way of looking at this
  10. No problem whatsoever, unless it is aimed at a competitor, fan or official I really don't care. Even then I'd be keen to understand the context before rushing to judgement.
  11. 2nd round for the year. Birdied 18 (par 5, near green for 2, got up and down).
  12. First round of the year, only 6 greens, no birdies😓
  13. I'm in. Aiming for 20 rounds at the home course this year. Let's see.
  14. Handicap down below 14 (from 18, which drifted out from 14) by 31/12, break 80 at least once this year, make an eagle in a tournament round 18 tournament rounds (1 down already) 9 lessons (1 down already) - with the idea to place total trust in the instructor and commit to doing the drills to continue to improve my swing. Go to short game facility regularly on my day off and systematically improve (putting stroke and read bead speed exercises, chips, pitches and distance wedges). Go to the range and be boring (commit to doing the drills set by instructor) more 3x a month Videoing my swing at the range more Find a better balance between golf as relaxing activity and golf as athletic pursuit towards a lower handicap. Diarise the golf play and practice I have. Not for the record but for the reflection it provides.
  15. 2nd hole at home course, downhill lie pitch across a lake, about 100 yds. Dead thin, skipped off water, rolled to about 15 feet, 2 putt par.
