Anyone have any experience with any do-it-yourself yardage books?

I asked this question a year or so ago here, I think. The best solution I found was just to buy a small Moleskine reporter's notebook and draw my own diagrams.

This doesn't satisfy the need for a complete yardage book but whenever I am about to play a course I am not familiar with, I use Google Earth. It has a ruler tool which can tell you how far things are in yards, meters or any other unit. THe pictures aren't perfect, but I use it to find out the ideal tee shot on each hole.

Just a tip if you do try it, try to find a course layout diagram and a scorecard on the internet, because dtermining the order of the holes and the actual distance can be difficult and misleading

My wife bought me a golf log. This works great as there is plenty of room for notes. I use it when I walk (about 95% of the time). Saves having to look for yardage markers.

I just tried Google Earth with the yardage toolbar. It is insanely cool. I even found my house with my car in the driveway. The pics are a few years old, but very precise. Good tip Crafty.
