Hi- my daughter is a rising 8th grader and has getting into golf. She takes lessons and we have played Par 3s on a number of occasions. Her goal is to continue to improve and play high school golf. She has now outgrown her 60" US Kids Golf set (she is now 5' 4" and will probably grow another 2 inches or so), and I'm looking to get her into her first set of ladies clubs. Any thoughts on what we should be looking at? So far, we have seen a complete set of Wilson Profile SGI from PGA Tour Superstore that cost $320. There were also 2 options at Dick's that looked like good deals. One was an iron/hybrid set of Callaway XR (ladies) for $599, and the other was a complete set of Callaway Solaire (2016) for $699. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You!

If she's serious enough, 2" of growth is not enough of a difference to require new clubs (she can grip down 1/2" to start).

I'd find a fitter who has the equipment necessary (likely just some men's senior shafts, or something like that) and see about fitting her into a set of PING, Cobra, or other types of clubs that have club heads that suit women, seniors, and juniors. I'd avoid clubs like Titleist… they tend to be heavier and more suitable for men and/or higher powered women.

A good set of clubs will not only have reasonably decent resale value, but can still cost < $2k. Especially since she probably doesn't need 14 clubs:

  • Putter (1)
  • Driver (2)
  • 5W (3)
  • Two hybrids (4, 5)
  • 6I, 7I, 8I, 9I, PW, SW (6-11)

She might even start off with a 6H instead of a 6I.

    • Day 2 (20 Jan 26) - Similar work as yesterday - started with lead hand solo drills with the 50°, followed by series of pitches and chips utilizing full setup.
    • Hey, thanks for the feedback. I do lift weights but I’m also adding yoga or Pilates for mobility and flexibility to my routine.
    • Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.
    • It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.
    • It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
