As I'm in the market to replace my ageing irons, it's been suggested to me that I try the Nike Pro combo's.
I've never so much as held one in my hand - although I did think that they looked pretty impressive on the Nike stand at this years Open.
Has anyone on the Forum tried/purchased these clubs? It would be useful to have other peoples comments on them before I dive straight in.

I have won a couple of Senior's events recently, which gives me just enough vouchers to get my hands on a set of Pro Combos. (This would mightily impress Wifey who was making noises about replacing the Dining Set (whatever that is )

What do you play now? What's your game like? If you've never held them in your hand... I can't recommend them. Too many people get dead set on an iron model (getting set on a brand is "okay" so long as that brand has a broad lineup of models) and really aren't doing what's best for their game.

Hi Eric,

Don't worry - I wouldn't dream of buying a new set of irons that I hadn't thoroughly tested. The Nike's are but one set that I'm hoping to 'test Drive' very soon. The others in the list include: Mizuno MX23; Wilson Staff Pi5; Taylor Made RAC LT 2; and not forgetting the much talked about 735's. My present irons are a locally produced set of 'John Letters T2's' They aren't bad, but are more suited to higher handicappers. I've had them for nearly 5 years now, and my game has moved on somewhat in the last two years, coming down from 20 to the current 13. I strike the ball pretty well - distance is not a problem, particularly with the mid to shorter irons where I could do with accuracy rather than raw distance. As ever, cost is a factor (we've recently moved to a larger house), which is why I thought I might give the Nike's a trial. I've read a number of reviews, most of which are very favourable. Hope to get along to the well stocked 'World of Golf' range on Tuesday to do some A/B testing

I had tested several clubs last fall, and was planning to buy the Nike Pro-combos as they felt great, but then went to Lauden Golf near my house and they had KZG Forged Evolutions. I like the feel of them even better than the Nikes and got a full set custom fit for only about a $100 more than the Nikes would have cost. http://www.kzgolf.com/forged_evolution.php

Well, I've had a decent test of the Pro Combo's and.... I love 'em!
I was lucky enough to find a Nike 'Demo Day' nearby, so I spent more than an hour trying them out.
They are a significant improvement over my old set of 'John Letters T2s' (mind you, what isn't?). I've ordered a set from our club Pro (3 to PW + 56deg gap wedge), he price-matched the best price I could find on the web, so I ended up with a pretty decent deal.
I can't wait to get my hands on them, but I have to wait a week for delivery. Bizarrely, they are stored in Holland. Luckily (?) I have a gap in my golfing calendar coming up, so I'll have a good chance to play them in.

They're definitly good looking clubs, IMO. Make sure to report back after you've had a chance to play with them for a while.

Still no sign of my clubs yet (sigh...)
However, I was talking to one of the members who had bought a set of Nike irons (not the Pro combos, but the 'Slingbacks'. He said it took him months to get the hang of them (!) I wouldn't say he was a great player, but he was good enough to beat me in the club championship qualifiers. (pre Nike)
I hope I don't take that long to play my new clubs in.

After five weeks fruitlessly waiting for the Nike's to arrive, I finally cancelled the order last week. Turns out that Nike weren't releasing the clubs to my Pro, as they reckoned he was selling them to me too cheaply!

Anyway, I decided to spend a bit more and get the clubs that I really wanted in the first place - Wilson Staff Pi5s.
I was at the factory last week getting measured up for them. It was a lot of fun doing that, although a bit intimidating being under such close scrutiny.
I should get the new clubs at the end of this week - just in time to get a chance to play them in before the last medal of the season.

I used them for a month earlier this year but couldn't get along with the Nike shafts.they are very well made and they fly high, another reason I went back to my 690s (which aren't exactly low).

You could do worse than putting these on your shopping list, well worth a dem.

At last! My new Pi5's arrived, as promised last week. Unfortunately, the weather here has been absolutely foul - (high winds and heavy rain) so I haven't had a proper chance to evaluate them.
So far, I've only had two quick sessions at our practice area (which is huge.)
First impressions? Yahoo!, I've made the right choice! I'm getting a great feel from the clubs, and the ball flight is exactly what I hoped it would be. Wilson Staff make a big claim that the Pi5's are ideal for those who want to shape a shot. Well I can testify that that claim is 'spot-on'.

The forecast for tomorrow is good, so I'll see if they do as well on the course as the have done on the practice area.

    • Starting over - missed posting yesterday and it had been less than 28 days since last off day….today was tempo drill day.  Worked on takeaway and moving smoothly into weight shift.
    • I know it is probably dependent on a lot of factors, but how windy does it have to be out before you need to start guessing on how much it would influence the break of your putt?  When I played at Bandon, it was like 25-30 mph winds. The caddies talked about the wind negating break. The only time I had it visually influence my putt was on hole 18 at Bandon Dunes. My missed my putt on the high side of a pretty severe breaking putt. The slope around the hole was in the 2-3 degree range. As the ball was about to come to a stop, the wind gusted and pushed the ball half a rotation into the cup.  The rest of the week I thought it had no influence at all. I was thinking, is it just over thinking to try to account for the wind?
    • Day 310 - 2025-08-06 Went downtown in the late afternoon and got nearly two hours of work in. Not a ton of breaks. Was blasting the TS at the end, from a HomePod and two TVs. 😄
    • I watched this video of his last night: I don't hate him like @boogielicious apparently does and thought this was a pretty good premise so I gave it a shot.  Not the worst thing in the world and I especially liked the premise.  He's got a lot of air to fill by himself, which he isn't great at, but in doing so, you get some decent insight into how his brain works while setting up shots/putts.
    • So driver is longer than all the other clubs and gear effect plays a bigger part with driver than anything else. If you're hitting it out of the heel it could slice even if you have the face square. Could try some foot spray or impact tape and check that. Other thing is if the shaft is different in how it flexes or how flexible it is it could be affecting your swing somewhat. Driver also has the straightest face, so while with a 4 iron it might fade, with driver that can wind up being a slice with the same face angle at impact.
