Putting green in my yard.

I am interested in making a putting green in my back yard. I am not sure what all I need to start with, how to maintain, etc. Does anyone have one in their yard? Thanks

my neighbor has a putting green he got it from sportscourt it is synthetic and requires no mantoenence the funny thing is that my neighbor does not play golf.

I would 100% recommend a synthetic surface green, real greens require too much maintenance, they need tending too every day, even too go in to what maintenance they need is complicated.

Synthetic greens are the way forward.

As for no maintenance on synthetic - what if you chip to it? Aren't the pitch marks going to be a problem at some point? Same with stepping on it with spikes.

I wouldnt recommend stepping onto a PRACTICE synthetic green with spikes.

And as long as your not chipping ON the surface, just chipping ONTO the surface it should be fine. Just dont be chipping so far to where your ball would leave a divot on a normal green.

Back in North Carolina, a friend had one, only got to putt on it a few times but it rolled true and looked great.

when a kid, my dad put astro-turf (what it was called in the day) on our front deck and i took a divot out of it, dad didn't like that, no more practicing there

My wife and I built our own 1000 sq ft L93 bent grass putting green.You can get a mower {power} for around 1300.00 the rest is all hard work.We brought 28 yds of 80/20 mix for our base then seed and all the spreading.Fake is easier but real when you donot want it anymore becomes a perfect back yard.

I think spending money on gas going to the coure to use their practice would be easier, and alot less labor. I saw the senthetic green at the golf show. I was like 3oo dollars for a small amount. I will stick to the course green.

Most synthetic greens are designed so that you can chip, pitch and putt on them while getting realistic results, however there will not be pitch marks left over, and the greens will not require maintenance (You could say that after a year of constant use the green might need a bit of work done to it, but its 200X less work than you would do on a real green)

Does anyone know the exact price for a middle-class synthetic green? I've always been interested in having one, but the maintenence on a proper green would kill me.
