Thinking about new irons. I like the Adams Idea Pro set along with the Mizuno MP 57s. I have hit the Adams a few times and it feels very nice, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with either or if you've compared the two. I'll definitely hit them both again before I buy anything, but I just wanted some other input.

Thanks!
Ryan

The Adams Idea Pros are the ones to get. The blended set is the best way to go nowa days. Another consideration are the Cleveland Hi bore irons which are off the wall. They may be the most forgiving irons that we will ever see.

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

It depends on how much you like to work the ball with your long irons. You can shape it alot more with the MP-57's than the Idea Pros.

or idea pro 3/4 hybrid + mizuno 5 to pw

by the way, have you noticed the sole of your 50* vokey is a lot thinner than pw that comes with your iron set?
I just recently bought 50* vokey and that looks/feels kind of strange.

My MP-57's are sweet. The 3-iron does look a little intimidating, but I had been using i3 oversized long irons for 6 years. I caught my first 3 iron off the tee in the sweet spot with the 57's and nothing in golf has ever felt better.

Thanks for the replies...Can anyone tell me how forgiving they think these clubs are compared to a regular cavity back since they're both trying to be a more forgiving players' iron? Thanks!

Keep the replies coming!

Get both!

Seriously, if you want the 3/4H, the Ideas will be more cost effective. I went with MP-57s and just got an Idea Pro 2H. Seems like I can hit the 3i ok with the NS Pro shafts, so I'm off the 3H bandwagon for now.

When I went club shopping last year I tried every iron brand out there and it fell between Idea Pro's and Mizuno MP57. They both had what I was looking for: soft feel, forgiveness (not like game improvement clubs), and forged. I went back and forth for nearly a month, did some research, asked tons of questions and finally decided on the Idea Pro's. What did it for me: I have a fairly low-ball flight and the Black Gold shafts would assist in getting the ball up faster, also the hybrids where the main reason. I thought about my game and usually the 3I and 4I are either for teeing on short par 4's or reaching the green on some par 5's or recovering from a junk drive. I don't use em for much other than those so I don't need a club that can work the ball as much. I wanted a club that will hit straight and long. Idea Pro's do just that. They are worth the cost just for those 2 clubs, imo.
The first day I used these clubs I shot a 76, and I attribute my 2007 Tournament League wins to these clubs. Ever since I've been breaking 80 more often than not. Of course, this is my view and experience. Try both out, don't rush it, you want to make the right decision and be happy about it.
Also, which ever you chose get them fitted.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
