It's come time for me to replace my old 3-wood. Currently I use Titleist PT 13, 15, and 17 degree metals (the 1990s models) depending on the course I'm playing. For perspective, I also play a 905R driver with a Proforce V2 shaft and a Titleist 585 hybrid with a steel shaft. My irons (735cm) have steel shafts as well.

I like the steel in my hybrid -- it feels like more of an extension of my iron set and acts as a 2-iron. With a graphite shaft it would undoubtedly go farther given the additional length of graphite shafts, but ultimately that wasn't my goal with a hybrid.

I'm looking to get a new 3-wood, probably a Titleist 906F2. What do you all think about the V2 shaft versus a steel shaft?

I was in a similar situation last year. I had used a 975F 3 wood with an S300 shaft in it, and loved the boring ball flight that I got with it. Only problem was that it wasnt the easiest club to hit off the deck. So when I upgraded my driver to a 905R with stiff V2 shaft, I also got a 906F2 with a V2 shaft. I went with the heavier model, 85 grams, so it feels like a steel shaft, but performs like a graphite shaft. I hit this club probably 10 meters longer with a slightly higher ball flight. You would probably have a hard time finding a 3 wood with a steel shaft nowadays as well.
Given that you have a driver with that shaft, I think it would be smart to go with the same in the 3 wood, the V2 shaft have similar characteristics to a steel shaft, so its not a huge difference between the two.

I think that's probably what I'll do. I'm not particularly concerned about the distance gap between my 17-degree hybrid and my 3-wood anyway.

Bought a 906F2 last year with the V2. Came from a steel iron 3-wood and I must say the V2 is light, but allows you to feel the club throughout the swing just like the iron shaft I had before. Absolutely love it.
