Daly screws up again

I have been a Daly backer on these very pages, but I do have to say his latest screw up now effecting other people. He missed his tee time for the ProAm yesterday. He claimed he thought they were going off at 9:47 when it was actually 8:40. He was on the way to the course when they called him and told him not to bother. He was DQ'd. That by itself is no big deal. However, Nick O'Hern and Ryuji Imada were also DQ'd because they thought they were alternates for the afternoon ProAM not the morning and were not at the course to fill in.

This sucks on many levels.

1. Two guys get DQ'd because someone else doesn't show for his ProAm spot. I don't like that rule, but I can see why it exists. Now they can't make any money or FedEx points.

2. I would assume he was a high pick for the ProAm pairings. How pissed would you be if you had shelled out big money to play in this and had maybe passed on playing with another big name to get Daly. By all accounts he is a great guy during the ProAm's and likes playing in them.

I am really afraid he is in the middle of what could be his last downward spiral. It sounds like he is drinking a lot and Butch just dumped him.

I really do pull for the guy. It just gets harder to defend his actions. This one is worse because it effects multiple people. I come from a family where my father treated his depression by self medicating with alcohol and then weed, before cutting his wrists. Fortunately he lived and was put on meds for his condition. He is now clean and doing great, but will have to live the rest of his life day by day. I will always pull for the guy to straighten himself out, but I can't defend something that hurts others.

I've been a Daly backer for a long time. I enjoyed his books and thought he was great. Not anymore.

Daly is a local boy.
We tend to back him no matter what.

He has a golf shop in the next town over. I keep hopeing to meet him.
To us (ahem) men of stature, he is a hero... he's fat, but he's still an athlete..
