Played this 4 day tournament last week as part of my recovery, didn’t expect much besides seeing if I could play 18 holes for 4 days. I played 5 rounds with 2 good days 1 very good day and 2 not good days, the 4th and 5th days were hard work for me and didn’t enjoy them much. I’m 22 marker and my best day was 84 gross, last week was all about will I continue golf or try something else. Just felt I was not moving fwd but boy after the first 2 days I know I’m doing the right things to keep going, playing 5 rounds in a week I knew I would hit the wall but wasn’t going to stop without trying my best. I hit some good golf shots like I did back in the day lol, bloody good feeling That and convinced my to keep going....

Ohh finished 2nd lol

Golf in NZ, pretty cool. I visited NZ/Aus back in 2006 but never played golf there. Some interesting things you mentioned in your post:

1) Recovery: what are you recovering from?

2) If recovering from an ailment, you sure jumped full force back into the game!

3) You are using this 'onslaught' of golf rounds to determine whether you will continue or not?

4) I don't play golf based on how well I am golfing, like most, I play for the multi-facet enjoyment of the game. Sure, everybody is going to have good days and bad days, that's golf.

You sound like a decent golfer to me.

You sound like a decent golfer to me.

1) Gall bladder removal that went horribly wrong, resulting in me spending 4 weeks in a coma and 3 months in hospital.

2) I come from a very competitive family of 8 brothers and 4 sisters, as I’m the youngest I’m more competitive than them all and yes I can’t play hit and giggle I have to do the best I can.

3) I came to the realisation I needed to do better or try another sport, I was very frustrated because I played to a 9 handicap. I don’t have to do that level to stay with golf but I have to play some good holes in a round of golf, I’m satisfied being able to do that which I’m doing each 9 holes I play.

4) Total agreement in terms of I play for my personal satisfaction of hitting a few good shots and having a laugh with my playing partners, before the 4 day tournament I was playing rubbish and not getting any better. The first 3 days I played well but on the 4th was too tired and played rubbish, but I was ok with this because I’d done really well and was happy with  how I’d played for the team.

We finished equal first and lost in a play off, didn’t agree with the play off format because handicap not used. My team 4 C grade players against 4 A grade players so no contest lol, it was for charity so no harm done....

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
