Well you are definitely right. But what I'm hoping to achieve from this pole is a shaft that is accepted widely by many people. That way when I go to try it out, I'll have an idea of which shaft I want to try out first. So I don't frustrate the guy by trying out 12 shafts before the right one appears. So I am going to gather the info and test out the top 3 shafts that people have found works for them. And if none of them give the proper results, then I will go down the list until I find a nice one.

If you can tell me a few things about your game I can recomend a few to start with...

do you hit a high or low ball... and what do you want swing speed or average club from 150 what is the shaft going in do you care more about distance or accuracy, or balance of two what is your tempo just to start... a few shafts on that list that are popular are 1) UST V2 2) Aldila Proto 3) Graffaloy Blue/Red but even these models have different weights, flex, etc.

With my driver, I'd say I hit a medium/high ball flight with about a 10 yard draw.
I would like the ball to go a bit lower and straighten out. I already hit it a good distance so I'm lookin to find the fairway.

From 150 out I usually take a 7 iron outta the bag, but a hard 8 iron would get it there, if I feel comfortable enough that day.

The shaft would be going in a SuMo 10.5 degree

My swing speed is about 95 mph

So right now you probably have that Diamana Yellow in the Sumo (just guessing). In general a heavier shaft promotes feel and control while a lighter one promotes distance. The UST V2 has a nice fairly stiff tip which will promote a lower ball flight. I would look at 65g minimum and maybe 75 grams. The Aldila Proto is somewhat similar and would be a good starting point. The Graffaloy Blue is a high launch low kickpoint shaft... so you probably should start with the red (it will lower ballflight). You want a shaft with a mid to high kickpoint if you want to lower ballflight while keeping the same lofted clubhead. You are borderline between stiff and regular, so you'll just have to hit them and see what feels right and still gives you decent distance. A cheaper option than the V2 is the shaft listed in my sig... the old UST Gold... it is about $40 and still a damn good shaft. The Aldila NV has a higher launch, but for me it's not quite as high as the Diamana Yellow or the Graffaloy Blue. Another one to consider might be the Aldila NVS. As stated start with 65-75 grams and try both stiff and regular... and just go from there. As far as the Epic you have listed goes... no sense spending that kind of money unless you are scratch... and even then, it is overkill.

good luck

just a note... as you can see from my signature I play a similar head driver. I tried the Nike version with that Diamana Yellow in it and I hit it sky high. That shaft balloons for me and feels way too whippy in the tip. That's why I went with what I have. I tried the V2, the NV, Graffaloy and many others... I prefer something with a fairly stiff tip and that just happens to lower ballflight. give those ones I suggested a try and I think one will work for you.

Completely agree

Well you are definitely right. But what I'm hoping to achieve from this pole is a shaft that is accepted widely by many people.

Problem with this is many (not all) peoples opinions are based on someone elses opinion, marketing, what they see their favorite pro or friend using and then you still may or may not have the same swing, clubhead, ball, etc as you. The shaft is but one part of the club.

That way when I go to try it out, I'll have an idea of which shaft I want to try out first. So I don't frustrate the guy by trying out 12 shafts before the right one appears.

This is exactly what a club fitter is for and he or she should not be frustrated by this...it is their job! Now if you're having the untrained individual help you then yes they probably would get frustrated because they are not a club fitter.

So I am going to gather the info and test out the top 3 shafts that people have found works for them. And if none of them give the proper results, then I will go down the list until I find a nice one.

See my 2nd comment above.

If you can tell me a few things about your game I can recomend a few to start with...

I don't know your experience so I'm not trying to say you're right or wrong. While these questions are a good starting point how can you ever recommend a shaft for a person without seeing their swing?

I am not recomending THE shaft... only a few for him to start with to see if they produce the numbers that would make for a good shaft. It is not rocket science a good shaft is one that gives you optimum launch conditions and feels good to the player while maintaining the desired amount of accuracy.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
