I really don't miss leaning on my driver and having some oaf step on it.

Not really. They seem a bit heavier than the current ones. I would hate to golf on the soft Washington greens with every duffer out with metal spikes.

They really aren't that much heavier, IMO

I also didn't really seem to see more spike marks with the metal spikes compared to today. Of course I was playing on very nice courses at the time..

I think the greens (mostly around the hole) are usually in better shape because of the soft spikes... mainly on busy weekends.

I think metal spikes sucked for walking on anything but grass.

The newer soft spikes get pretty good grip... just not those pulsar ones that come in a lot of shoes.

Only positives for metal was they were easier to clean and to remove.

Ah...yes much easier to clean and change out. I also agree about the busy weekends. I don't miss the bumpy areas around the cup either.

I miss the sound of metal on concrete or tarmac. It's the sound of the walk from the clubhouse to the 1st tee - one of the finest walks you can take!

My home course still allows metal spikes, but I can't remember hearing the click of them on asphalt for at least 2 years. Everyone has gone to soft spikes and the greens are that much better because of it. No more old guys dragging their spikes across the greens

I switched as soon as soft spikes were available. My ankles felt so much better after walking 18 or 36 holes, and I didn't slip very much, even with the earliest plastic spikes.

They're tougher to clean, yeah, but that's about the only negative. Sometimes they can be tougher to remove, maybe.

yes.. i have a pair of new shoes waitingout the embargo.. bought a pair if titanium spikes.. never need to change them... the winter before the big change.. or so - we all thought - that will never happen..

honestly.. no- better on the body using and course using the pink champ spikes..

Absolutely not. My feet don't hurt as bad after walking 18 holes and I really don't notice any traction dropoff. I actually played last summer with running shoes and played better than I ever have. Being more comfortable late in the round has a lot of advantages.

Don't really miss metal spikes at all actually. I find the spikes in shoes nowadays to be much lighter!

I'm willing to bet 75% of the people on this site never played with metal spikes. There is nothing like the sound on the cart paths and hey they worked. If you ask me the only real benefit to golf shoes now is they are waterproof.

Yes I do. You have to love the sound that they make when you walk on cement. It is a sound that I remember from my days of football, baseball and golf. Glory days from the past........... Get two or three guys walking across the parking lot with steel on and you will know what I mean.
