Full swing help: The thing I have been working on recently has been to consciously try to swing under my backswing. I have added yards and become straighter overall, but my miss has become a slice rather than a hook and I struggle with turning it over. I've always had the most success swinging inside to out and don't want to abandon that. Any ideas on how I can force myself to come from the inside?

Short game help: Pitching and chipping from thick rough without taking a big flop swing. I've heard Paul Azinger describe how pros do it as not using the leading edge but rather coming in with the club more flat to the ground to pass through the grass, which I understand, but when I do it I tend to hit little scooters to the right. Any ideas?

Without seeing your swing, it's tough to say (side note: do you have a video camera?). But what I do when I can't hit the shot I want to hit is to hit exaggerated shots with half swings, then slowly work my way up. So say you want a draw: hit a bunch of 1/2-five-irons with big huge draws. Slowly work your way up to 3/4 five irons with medium draws. Then full swings with a little draw.

Are you manipulating your hands and wrists through impact or are you letting the clubface release a little? Depending on the length of the shot, the clubface will or won't close a little.

By scooters you don't mean little shanks, I presume.

I like that idea, thanks. If I can, I will video tape it. About the short game question, in general in the short game, whenever I can, I try to do things with very quiet hands to make it simpler. Is it possible then that the clubface is closing going through the grass? Also, on this type of shot, what would you imagine being the first move in the stroke? (For example, my first move in my full swing is to begin turning my shoulders to bring the club to toe up)

Same first move - but chip shots still have wrist hinge. It's just that the wrist hinge is on the way back, and they don't really release of hinge back on the way through until well past impact. I doubt the clubface is closing if the ball is going right. Unless you're a lefty...

    • Well I think I should be really looking forward in the next 6 months, I'm currently on the mend from surgery to my left bicep tenodesis and rotator cuff,  golf has been on the sidelines for way too long like 2 years. Prior to my course being closed permanently I did manage shooting sub par on the front 9 three times , 35 twice and 34 once which was for me very impressive on a course that was 139 slope at that time. Besides some nice memories my daughter wants to take the game back up again and that is something that has me very happy I honestly thought she lost her interest when she was around 12 or 13 and I'm not the type to try and force her to do things.
