Here in Vermont we really dont have a spring, its Summer, Fall, Winter then mud season. We have had a lot of snow this year and its just starting to go away, the courses can get preety ugly in the beagining of the year, what is the worst beagining season conditions youve ever played in?

It gets a little firmer and the rough tends not to grow much here in the NE corridor in the winter. Other than that course conditions in the winter actually dont change all that much. The superindentendts tend to let the course grow when it can and manicure very sparingly.

Well I was really looking forward to our courses opening up maybe this coming weekend, but we got 8 inches of snow yesterday and it is 35 degrees right now. I couldn't be more bummed. Spring in the upper midwest is a total crap shoot.

The worst condition I played in was last fall first week in November. It was 32 degrees and the wind was whipping and it started to sleet on us at the 14th hole. We played through it though because we knew that it would be the last time we could play golf for months.

    • Great post and I agree with almost all of it. The discipline piece is real — most golfers want the result without the reps. One thing I'd add: there's a version of discipline that happens away from the range too. The 20 handicapper who texts the next day with a full-speed video — that's not just a practice discipline problem. That's an identity problem. He still sees himself as a 20 handicap who's trying something new. He hasn't made the internal shift to being the golfer who practices with intention. I work on the mental side of the game and what I've found is that the golfers who actually stick with the slow, boring, disciplined practice are the ones who've done some internal work on who they believe they are as a golfer. The ones who quit after two range sessions never changed the story they tell themselves. They're still running the old software. Discipline isn't just "will you do the reps." It's "do you believe you're the type of golfer who does the reps." That belief piece is what separates the ones who text you the next day with a full-speed swing from the ones who actually put in the work.
