Hey, all. I am new to this forum. Question to the group - particularly people with clubfitting experience:

What manufacturers make "B" weight wedges and how can you tell?

Background: I went to a clubfitter this winter and was fitted for longer than standard length irons and wedges (longer irons +.5", shorter +.75") He said that as you increase shaft length, you sometimes need to use lighter heads so the overall swingweight does not become too heavy. Although I ordered new irons from him, I like my current wedges (56 clev 588 and 60 vokey) and they are not too worn. I asked about reshafting them with the longer length and he said he had some concern about them being too heavy. He said specifically that cleveland does not make any "B" weight wedges. He showed me the mizuno MPT wedges that do come in "B" weight. When I went online to check specs of various manufacturers I did not see any info on this.

Does anyone know what the options are and does this recommendation I received make sense?

Hey, all. I am new to this forum. Question to the group - particularly people with clubfitting experience:

His concern is "static weight" - i.e., the total weight of the club. He sounds like he knows his business. Before I go on, is there any reason to lengthen the wedges? You said you like them. There are alternatives if you really want longer wedges. You can get shaft butt extensions made out of wood or plastic at the Golfworks. You just have to re-grip your wedges and install the extensions before the new grips. I've read a lot of club fitting threads here. I'm sort of a moderate. I don't think every itty-bitty change is going to throw you off your game.

I do like the current wedges, however, I have noticed some positive things from the lengthened irons. I am able to swing a little flatter and more on plane and that has helped my ballstriking. It feels more comfortable from set up and I do not feel like I get too upright in the swing - a common issue I experienced with my old set.

He said I will have no issues around the greens with my wedges as is, however, if I intend to play the wedges frequently from the fairway, I could benefit from the longer shafts.

Sometimes I think we can be too anal on things like this...

My opinion just go play....

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
