I know my fair share about golfing equipment, but there are those on this forum who know so much more than me, so their advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently using a Nike Sasqautch Tour head with the Graffalloy Pro launch blue shaft, personally I hate the shaft, I find it too inconsistent in distance, height and shot dispersion.

My question is it worth getting the club re shafted, what benefits would I get etc, I'm trying to justify getting a new shaft but are is it really worth the cost, when the club does tend to go down the middle of the fairway.

Basically How much more would I get from a shaft that suits me.

What is your current driving distance if you don't mind me asking? That way I could put better opinion/advise for you.

I carry the ball about 240, give or take. The roll of the ball is of course relative to the conditions. I hit the ball on a medium ball flight, if anything you could say I don't spin the ball enough.

Wait, so what exactly don't you like about the shaft? Are you sure that it isn't just that you have the wrong flex? What you are describing sounds like the result of the wrong flex, but It could be a wrong shaft.

The shaft works, I just dislike the shafts characteristics, I very much doubt its the wrong flex.

What you might want to consider, regardless of the type of shaft you purchase, is having it, pured. This will result in consistent flex point. The process is generally $50.

A quick question. Was the shaft installed at the factory? Also, was any work done to the shaft to mimic your ideal ball flight, torque, etc?

Having it Pured definately appeals to me.

The shaft was fitted by a Golf Smith custom fitter, although no custom work was done to the shaft. I am thinking of getting my driver re shafted with the Pro Force V2 as that's the shaft I have in my 3 wood, and is a shaft I have always felt comfortable with. JaY_B

I think you would greatly benefit from reshafting. Don't feel weird about about problems with the Prolaunch Blue either; my dad has one in his Ping G5 and I find it to be inconsistent at times.

As was said previously, make sure the shaft is pured. I guarantee that you will be able to justify the extra $50 after just a few drives.

One last thing, the V2 sounds like a good option. If you like it in your 3 wood, then go for it. Make sure you get fitted for the proper shaft weight , as fairway shafts are generally heavier than driver shafts.

Jay,

When you go to the Pro Force, try different torques. You said you had a mid trajectory flight. How does your ball take off? Does it have that low explosion and then the mid-trajectory? Take a look at your sidespin numbers, too. Based on the kick point and torque, those sidespin numbers might decrease and give you additional distance. This was my experience when I switched shafts:Aldila NV to the Accra. Lastly, for consistency and feel purposes, take the balls you play with. At the very least, it will provide you with some comfort and familiarity.

    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
