Last year my wife and I put our names on the waiting list for membership at the course we play in North West Michigan. It is about 15 minutes from her parents place that we go to in the Summer. It is 3 hours away from our house. Membership is cheap. It's only about $500 for both of us for the year. That gives you free greens fees whenever you play. It is normally $25 to ride 18. The course is short, only 60 par, but it is in great shape and has 5 par threes that play over 200 and 3 more that play 180+. If you want a cart it's $9 per person for 18 holes. We figured that it would be next year before our names came up. We got the call last week that we are in if we want it.

Here's the problem. When we put our names on the list we figured that my work situation would have changed by now. I was either going to be going to work with my brother and having weekends off or I would be buying the gym I run and would be able to set my own schedule. Neither one has happened yet so my schedule is not my own yet and I am still working almost every Saturday. To get our moneys worth we would have to play 31 rounds between the two of us. That is not a ton if I am up there for a week where I would play 18 every morning and an occasional 9 in the afternoons. Throw in 3 rounds on Memorial Day and Labor Day along with 2 each weekend that I am up there (3-5 per year) and I can hit that number pretty easily. However, if I am still working here I will likely not get my week in the Summer and won't get up there for as many weekends. That would make a huge difference.

I am leaning towards asking them to push it to next year. If I can keep my place in line and pick it up in 09 I will likely do that.

For $500 a year for 2 people I'd just take it anyway. That wouldn't even buy me 2 months at the club I was looking at here.

It's the same way by me. Most of the top clubs are $500 for the month. If this was closer to home I wouldn't even have to think about it. I just don't know if I will get over there enough to justify it.
