Wow...didn't know as an 18 that I was BAD and considered a hacker. Given your tone/ego/view of the larger golf community I'm pretty certain that neither I or any of the other bogey golfers out there would be interested in playing with you, so you better stick to onesomes from now on...

Going to assume you didn't mean to say "cops" but rather "chops" like your subject.

It's one of the reasons I quit. I got tired of giving a guy 8 strokes on nine holes only to have him shoot a once-in-a-year round of 39 or something. I was supposed to play against the #1 player on each team, but sometimes that guy was a 22 handicap and sometimes the #1 player would get a sub for him... who was a 22 handicap. The few times I got to play a lower handicap player, they were usually jerks. I joined the league to meet people, and even the high handicappers weren't very social, so after two years I got out. Plus nine holes would take over 2 hours, guys were usually late... the works.

Eric,

Your point is a good one in terms of what a low handicaper can run into playing higher handicap in a non-flighted competition. I sure hope you don't subscribe to the idea though that a 20 is BAD!!!! and a hacker as Mustang suggests...

I have no problem with people being bad at golf.

We were all there at one point and other people have different priorities in life. But I'm probably pretty "bad" to a pro golfer, and a 20 is pretty "bad" to me. It's all relative. I don't know what a "chop" is, but anything 20+ seems like a good definition to me.

Actually the average USGA handicap is 15. So a 20 is past the normal average. Most of the guys i image fudge there handicap any ways. But the point was any idea's on making it more fun and a challange. Besides giving more than a stroke a hole for the most part.

I just joined one this past week with my Dad. Its a Wednesday night league. Our nine hole scores were: 37(me), 47(dad), 45, 54 (other team). I had a great time. Ya, the other golfers are not that good but it was still fun. If you are looking for competition you need to get into some tournaments. If you are an 8 handicap you are probably not ready for any amatuer or state tourns. but you could probably find something. golf leauges (unless noted as competitive) are more about hanging out after work and drinking beer.

I play in one every Tues (9 hole) and I had to give this guy 10 shots this past week. Really what makes it not fun is having to watch 9 shots in between each of your shots. The 3 I played with shot 60, 65, 69. I shot 43 which was awful to my standards but still, a lot of waiting around, and waiting around. Its worse when I shoot avearage or better than average.

And no offense to the worse players, I enjoy the guys I play with, but it really takes you off of your game. Its nobodies fault its just how it is. I dont dislike you or think less of them because they are worse at golf, its just not really fun to me when I get into this situation.

This may sound really harsh and horrible of me, but I like playing against weaker golfers, it kind of boosts my confidence and makes me play better. I'm not the one to focus on how they are playing So in my eyes they could be a pro and I wouldn't notice, I just know on the green when they tell me their score, and I know mine was better.

Yes it sounds harsh, but its just how I feel, and No, im not a jerk.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
