Anyone got these clubs, or tried them out?

I would love to get some comments about them.
- Are they easy to hit?
- What shafts did you get with them?
- Some say the short irons look weird or clunky. Is that so?
- Do they look good at address?

Havent found many good pictures of them in all angles. There's Cleveland's pictures, but hard to really see how they would look "in person".

I had them in action flighted regulars. They are easy to hit, very forgiving, but to me they did not feel well at all though. With the shaft, extremely easy to get into the air. The topline was a bit thick, but not as bad as some other irons. The gold rubber vibration was not as bad/irritating to look at as they do in the pictures.

Overall, very good irons, especially 20< handicap. But once I/you get down into the teens, I felt like I wanted something a little more workable, and something I can grow into for years to come. If you do not play alot, and just got started playing, I would recommend them, although I think there are better options. I have seen the irons brand new for just over $400-450 though, so the price is definitely right. On ebay you could probably get a set still in mint condition for around $300, so definitely great if you do not want to spend a lot of money for a game improvement iron.

Anyways, I do think they cg4s would be a better option for someone looking to start playing seriously. Great iron, can last you a long time, and very cheap now since they have been out for sometime.

Best of luck!

I just really started getting into golf this year and was thinking about buying a set like the CG Gold but decided that i really want to get good at this game so i purchased a set of real players irons in the CG1 Black Pearls that Vijay uses.

Now, i know these are extremely unforgiving clubs but the way i look at it is, i might as well learn to play the right way and use the right clubs. If i use a forgiving starter club, mishits won't be as mishit and i won't know where to improve my game. Let me tell you : Mishits are OBVIOUS with the irons i have. hah!

I have a set on order and cant wait for them to arrive, i tried all sorts of irons before deciding on these (TM callaway ping etc) as soon as i hit them i knew they were the club for me. It all comes down to what you feel confident with , who cares what they look like if they feel good and your confident then get them... they are due in next wed, Ill let you know how they go after a few rounds.

i have the CG golds, very forgiving and long. It is true that the short irons look a bit clumsy but its really nothing i had noticed until i read about it here.

It is very good irons, i bought them when i was in the 20´ies handicap too.

Imo they are worth buying.

They are also on the Golf Digest Hot list (hope im alowed to "advertise" for that)

Thanks Cizzle. Appreciate that information!

Had my first hit of them last night and if that range session (off grass) is anything to go by then i am going to be dropping strokes in no time. There is nothing not to like about these clubs great feel at contact great weight and balance and very long too (although that may have something to do with the shafts i have in them, i went with the stiff Dynalite golds) the ball flight is low and peircing, all in all im very happy so far. My first few hits were well off the toe (my first set of custom fit clubs, they are 3° upright so i have to teach myself to stand closer to the ball and more upright) but even off the toe the ball still went straight and only lost a little distance. Im going out for a round this thurs ill let you know how they perform on the course!!

PS. i got a free CG14 52° wedge with the set and it is also very nice, spent ages on the practice green with it , has great feel and stopping power... just thought id let you know incase you were looking for a wedge too

Great, thanks for all the replies!

Sounds good, Caddyshack. Looking forward hearing from you and how they are on the course! Might be able to check these out next week, and hopefully get me a set.

Played my first round today and im super impressed!! i left my driver and hybrids at home so i could get used to the new clubs so was taking 3 & 4 iron off the tee and wow the long irons go super high and with plenty of distance. I hit a couple of great approach shots with the wedge and hit a couple of long par 3s too. all in all was a great first hitout the clubs felt great throughout the entire swing and very solid at impact, i just love them!! Im sure they may not be for everyone but if your a 10 - 20 capper (or even higher) and your looking for new irons then definatly give these a try.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
