I'm thinking of re-gripping my driver. My grip seems to keep slipping on it, even with a new glove, and I'm not having the problem on my other clubs. It happens rarely, but enough that I'd like a fresh grip if possible.

I have a few questions about this:

1. My driver is a Cobra F-Speed. Its grip even says Cobra and F-Speed on it. The normal Golf Pride grips, however, don't have this on them. Is there any way for me to get a new grip that looks the same?

2. I bought my driver used, out of a used bin. I knew what specs I wanted, and used Cobras were on sale, and I found the right one (actually, a manager called around with my specs to find the right one). However, when I got fit for my irons and wedges (by Mizuno, not Cobra), I got grips that are +1/32". My new irons, with that grip size, feel great! Should I do the same size for the driver? The grip didn't feel small until I got the irons.

I regripped all my clubs with the "mid" size grip, this was great for giving me a bit more control and it weakened my group a bit without it feeling like my grip was weaker. Nice for working in that fade I was looking for and my accidental draws are less frequent.

You may want to see if Cobra can get you an OEM replacement grip. I would try and get all your clubs feeling the same, if you can swing your driver like you are swinging your 9i most people would be much more accurate :)

Golf Pride makes really good grips. Take a look at the blue one, I forget the name. It's from their new series. I have it on my driver and love it.

As for the difference between your irons and driver, it's more of a feel and playability, issue. For example, on my irons, I have a second layer of tape, for top hand only, that keeps me from applying too much grip pressure.

For my driver, it's standard because I like to feel the driver head. My driver is pretty heavy, too, D8.

In my opinion, if you have 'different than standard' grips on your irons it would probably be best to have them on your other clubs as well. Driver, 3-wood, hybrids, wedges. This will add to the feel consistancy of the club in your hands, with the exception of the putter which has a different style of grip. I use a standard size grip and put the same grips on all clubs so I really have no experience with anything else.

Second, unless you just like having the Cobra logo on your grip, or there is something that makes it different, it is really unnecessary. There is probably nothing special about it. More than likely it is just a regular Golf Pride Tour Velvet with the Cobra logo instead of the Golf Pride logo. I have never looked at a Cobra grip so it may be a little different, and if you really like it you could probably locate one. However, if you are lucky enough to locate an OEM grip from Cobra it would probably cost you about double of a regular Golf Pride.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Would this be the DD2 blue?

Yeah, there are two circles on it, too, which I guess might be for thumb placement, but I don't use them for that. So maybe I don't need a Cobra grip for it.

as above, if you needed custom sizes for your irons, I'd be replicating this on the rest of your clubs (unless your driver hands are a different size to your iron hands?)

Stock grips = forget it. The F on the grip means nothing.

Much cheaper just going out to get some other grips fitted. My Superquad has the stock grip, but the grip and perhaps shaft are not aligned properly to the head (if the grip was 'centered' the face would be well open). I don't even like the stock grip anyway, so its getting replaced along with the 5 wood next week. Golf Pride Velvet (same as irons) or Multicompound?!?!?

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
