  1. 1. Did you ever use oversized golf balls like the Magna?

    • Yeah, I'll try (most) anything once.

    • No, I figured they'd have a harder time fitting in the cup.

Looking through our search results (what people search for to end up at The Sand Trap), I saw someone found their way here, to an article on oversize golf balls . Remember those? The Magna, etc.?

So I asked the question in the poll above. I used them, never for long, and mostly as a curiosity. It's pretty weird how, even without another golf ball as a reference, you could spot the oversized balls.

Heck, my wife says she can tell right away.

Those balls had a bad rap around these parts because the "yuckiest" town near here was called Magna. Kind of like our version of Compton...

Never played top flites. Too hard.

Havent really thought about using any.

I got a dozen free at a media outing. They were Top-Flites, period. As Golf Digest famously wrote when the Magna came out, "If you want to reduce hooks and slices, practice a little more." Man, was TF peeved...

I used the Magnas, and then used whatever their successors are, the 2000 and then the 3000. They did make a small difference over other cheap balls, but probably not over expensive balls.

I've since switched away to a Wilson ball, as I wasn't happy with the 3000 series.
