I'm heading out to London in late June to go to Wimbledon, and I'm hoping to get a round in while I'm out there. Any one from around the area or who has golfed there before have any suggestions? I won't have a car, so I'll either use the Underground (is this possible with golf clubs?) or take a cab, so it can't be too far outside the city.

Thanks!

When my son was in School in London I visited a few times and played some great golf courses. Surrey and Berkshire, south west of London have many excellent courses. A few that I would suggest are Woking, Worplesdon and New Zealand. These are classic English heathland courses and are among the finest in England. They are old, traditional, pretty and fun to play. At New Zealand I used Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's locker. These courses are relatively short but still challenging due to the heather. You can take a train ( I think from Victoria Station) and then a short cab ride from the train station to the course. If money is no object and you want to play the greatest heathland course there is (IMHO), play Sunningdale -Old. You can get a deal by playing both courses at Sunningdale. It's about 225 GBP ($450) to play both courses (and worth it.) Otherwise, the other three I mentioned are a lot less expensive.

i will ditto Sunningdale...play it if you are going all the way over there. It's about 20 minutes outside of town, but worth it. Well worth it. If you email their club secretary right away, he can probably hook you up. You need to give them about a month advance notice though.
