in the match between nicklaus and jacklin

jack conceded a putt at the very end


the concession golf course....designed by jack and tony

is about 10 miles from where i live...............it was chosen the #1 new course in the UNITED STATES......this past year..

BUT.....does anyone know the real reason jack told tony...to "pick it up"??

Im sure i saw a tv interview with jack about this. He said that he did not want the cup to end with Jacklin missing a putt. He also said though that he knew Jacklin would make the putt. It did not effect the final outcome as the draw meant that the US retained the cup.

Shows another great example of Jacks great sportsmanship and a great advert for the game of golf even though it was in 1969.

On their way down the final fairway the American called out: "How do you feel Tony?" Jacklin replied: "Bloody awful."

Then once he picked up the marker.

Jack said: "I don't think you would have missed that Tony, but I didn't want to give you the chance."
