I would consider the following:

Torrey (be careful I think they usually are doing maintenace around the time you are looking to go and since its a muni it usually takes longer for the course get back into decent condition and for the price you'll be paying it would not be worth it)
Barona (get the casino card and you'll save 15% on the green fees - I think this is the best value in town)
Maderas
Coronado (its only $25 to walk any day any time)
Talega (this is actually in Orange County but only takes an hour to get there)
Salt Creek
Carlton Oaks (this is hit or miss - I've seen great conditions here and very poor conditions here, I can't be all that bad if it holds the 1st round of the pga qualifying can it?)

My 2 favorites in SD are Steele Canyon and Redhawk in Temecula.When the Mrs and I played TP south we over the phone with Torrey and it was 90.00 a piece and a pro walked the first 4 holes with you and talked about the course.

Coronado is one of the best deals and kept secrets for SD golf..there is no residency req. so EVERYONE plays for $25 during the week..think it's only $35 with a cart..BUT it's near impossible to get a choice tee time..I highly suggest to walk on EARLY and get on the waiting list with the starter. It's not a difficult course but VERY pretty as it goes through the bay/marina and you see a great shot of the bridge..very walker friendly.

I'll give another vote for Encinitas Ranch, if you like a fairly forgiving course. Some nice views, reasonably priced, new clubhouse.

Sounds like I'll have to try Coronado as well. Around here it's a case of ... too many courses, too little time .
