Trouble at top of backswing.

I feel that when I get to the top of my backswing the club is in a weird position and I have to manipulate my swing to get it back into the right position on the downswing. It feels shut at the top, not a lot but just a bit.

My first instinct tells me that its a grip issue. I have such a weak grip, I dont know if I can get this grip any weaker, both with the left and right hands so I'm not sure if that is going to fix it. It may and I'm just not seeing it, I don't know. Maybe I'm not taking the club back the right way or something. Anyone have any advice or any checkpoints I can do.

I must say that I like to fade the ball and live by Hogans Five fundamentals book. In saying that, w/ my grip both the v's point to my chin or even left of my chin just slightly because I had a bitch of a time hooking the ball last year, and I never want those to come back. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. When I go to the range I feel like I get nothing accomplished because the club feels so weird with my swing now.

It is hard to tell what's going on without pictures, but I would suggest working on the first 12" of your takeaway and maybe getting your wrist set earlier. Check point: On the backswing, when your club is parallel to the ground you should also feel it is parallel to the target line with the blade pointed straight up to the sky.
