I have been playing Cleveland's CG1 Black Pearl Irons (3-PW) for the past two years and here's my review :

I bought these clubs when I was pretty much a beginning player. I was pretty confident in my game and these clubs looked great off of the sales rack and although they cost near $1000, i said, hey, why not?

After playing my first round with them, I wasn't so sure I had made the right decision. I was hitting the ball all over the place, off line and off everywhere but the center of the clubface. It wasn't pretty.

However, after playing more and more and now, after taking two months worth of lessons at Mitchell Spearman's golf academy, I can honestly say that I made the right decision in purchasing these clubs. Every golf pro that has seen me play always wants to try out my irons and they all agree; these clubs are legit.

When you hit the sweet spot on these babies, it really doesn't get any better. Now, to actually consistently hit that spot, you're prob. going to need to be a very good ballstriker and thus, i would only recommend these blades to 7 or under handicappers. Although i'm a 13, i feel like i can handle these but still believe a cavity back set would help me out...too bad. i already have these and i'm not switching yet.

I've washed these clubs several times and the wear on them after about 70 rounds is minimal. They have really stayed in great shape...head, shaft and grip. The original dark color is more of a silvery smoke now but i actually prefer it to what it was originally.

Outside of that, there's not much to say. I need to get the clubs lengthened as they are meant for a 5'10" golfer off of the rack and i'm 6'2" but they are still playable for me.

Anyways, that's it. I think these are great irons and even greater in the hands of a skilled player. Try them out!

Yeah, those are some nice looking clubs. Your a perfect example of getting tour caliber clubs and learning to hit them over time. And dont get them lengthened if your hitting them fine!! That may give you extra yardage but the shorter shaft will help you hit those blades more accurately IMO.

    • I've used this for planning, good information about courses, regions, transport, and lodging. Amazon.com  I prefer to stay in B&Bs, and have enjoyed playing many non-famous courses.  Hiring a car for many weeks is likely to be pretty expensive, but train travel is possible between regions.  I don't know about taxis for getting to courses, but that might be cheaper than hiring a car.  I certainly recommend staying in St Andrews for a while, there are 6 courses within the St Andrews Trust, and a shuttle will take you from one to the other, not including the Castle Course.  Beyond that, there are a dozen or more good courses within an hours drive, including Carnoustie and Kingsbarns and a bunch of lesser-known but fabulous courses.   Good luck, Scotland is a fabulous place!
    • I am looking to do a solo trip to Scotland, maybe 3 to 4 weeks, not golf every day but see some of the country in between. Looking more for convenience of travel to courses  than any particular courses. Any help on  best location, courses, accommodations appreciated.

    • Yeah, I saw that. I'm assuming that will be considered desicration of the course or something and whatever consequences. It should.
