I was asked to describe the tempo ball ( a yellow ball attached to a rope attached to a plastic golf handle. It is about the length of a 7 iron. It is adjustbale though.) and why I feel it is so effective.
There are so many training aids out there. The newest "sensation" is David Leadbetter's Swing Setter. It costs about $120.00. You can go on E-Bay and get the Tempo Ball for $1.00 and I think it will do more to improve your game. It is easy to outbid people because nobody knows about it. The problem many people run into is hoping that atraining aid will give them overnight success. People don't give the training aids enough time so they never find out if it is effective.
When first working with the tempo ball, I had troubling swinging it. Once you get the groove it will do wonders for your game. It teaches the proper swing motion and grooves a nice tempo in your swing. What I love about it is that it takes thinking about the swing, out of the equation.

How does it work? It's a ball on a string. You swing it around like a golf club and... it hits you in the gut? What?

L.O.L Wally Armstrong is the "creator" of the tempo ball. Manio De La Torre used to teach his students the free flowing centrifugal force of a swing using a pen knife attached to a towel. The tempo ball is the same concept. It comes with an instructional tape of Wally Armstrong explaining how to use it in his classicaly simple manner.
The tempo ball works by swinging it like you would a golf club ( unless you are swinging the club incorrectly and that is what the tempo ball improves)
You allow it to hit you somewhere on each tricep as you go back and through. It develops great tempo because if you try and rush the swing, the ball will hit you in the head or back :).
I like to have it brush the ground to get feedback.

    • Well I think I should be really looking forward in the next 6 months, I'm currently on the mend from surgery to my left bicep tenodesis and rotator cuff,  golf has been on the sidelines for way too long like 2 years. Prior to my course being closed permanently I did manage shooting sub par on the front 9 three times , 35 twice and 34 once which was for me very impressive on a course that was 139 slope at that time. Besides some nice memories my daughter wants to take the game back up again and that is something that has me very happy I honestly thought she lost her interest when she was around 12 or 13 and I'm not the type to try and force her to do things.
