Anyone using the Intelligolf software? I have a Moto Q9h and was thinking of trying it out but the file is a msi and my phone won't open it. Also, what are your thoughts on it?

I use it on a Palm Treo and really like it. However they upgrade it each year or two with limited increased functionality.

How did you install the .msi file? My Moto Q won't run the .msi file. :(

The .msi file is a Windows application that will install the software on your desktop and then install files to the phone when it's synced.

The desktop Software is great for tracking and breaking down your rounds and the mobile software is great for keeping score. I have only used the scorecard feature as I do not have a GPS enabled PDA.

I am currently considering this software as well. The only thing ive noticed about it is, the Drive Calculator. From what ive read it doesnt use the GPS to do it, but rather makes you pace out from your drive to where the ball landed.. Any idiot can pace out to give the distance, it would be far more of a feature (and one im looking for) if it just used the GPS, and you just hit a button when you shot, then hit a button when your at your ball.

Has anyone who has used the GPS version been able to tell if it that changes? or dose it still make you pace it out on the GPS enabled one?

I am currently using the trial of the latest version on my BB 8310. It works really well. One of my smaller local courses was not in their database. I used the desktop program and google earth and marked the green and hazards. It's is pretty much dead on. When you are tracking shots you click "Start" in GPS mode (at your hitting location) then when you get to your shot you click "End." It prompts you for what club you used and some other info. It shows your yardage even if you don't click end and keeps tracking until you click on end or done. If I am not mistaken, this is how it works with all other GPS devices with shot tracking. I really want to buy it, as I like the scorecard and sidegame feature. $70 w/ GPS is pretty steep!

I used it on my Blackberry 8800 last year. Of my local courses it only had one mapped. Furthermore, the interface was clunky and convoluted as if designed by drunken monkeys.

This year I bough a dedicated Golf GPS and could not be happier. For score keeping I find it easier/faster to use paper anyway.

I've been using it for over a year and like it. Haven't really used it on the course with the GPS for tracking shots though I do use it for skins and betting. I've got all of the golfing gang's scores recorded so its pretty easy to agree on handicaps when we play/bet net.

I have used it for several years. I obviously really like it. I am a bit of a gadget freak.

On the course it is quick and easy to enter your game including score, putts, each swing/distance/on-off direction. Obviously a good score card with up to 5 players and side games if you like.

It does have a distance feature ( pacing off distance to markers ) or with appropriate courses, gps support. You can enter gps coordinates using google earth or flash earth. Tedious, but rewarding.

I have abandoned the GPS support though. The blue tooth gps connection ran down the battery on my T5 in 15-17 holes. If I thought about it I could make it work. I instead moved to a separate GPS, golf guru. At the end of each hole, I transfer the distance information to the intelligolf.

There is space for information on the course, each hole and for tracking other items as text per hole in the round.

I also like the PC based software: quick stats and detailed stats, print outs etc. The software captures many golf metrics while you are playing: FH, GIR, putts, putt missed, penatly, sand/bunker shots, distances for each club, etc. The end of round summary is surprisingly complete.

Good service -- they recovered a damaged database for me.

I think it is worth the money. As someone stated, right now the upgrades are not giving a lot of additional value. But then again, I have all but the latest (end of July 2008) updates in hand.

Cool review mkrolewski. Would you be able to tell me if it supports maps of each hole? (layouts of bunkers, water hazards etc..) either though uploaded pics or gps mapping?

it doesn't - there are no course graphics in Intelligolf.

Humm.. well that kinda stinks, but i can deal without it, as ill likely have a score card with me anyway and they usualy have maps.. And some of the courses i play on have maps at the tee off areas. I Did see that you can plot key areas for range (like the range to a sandtrap or water hazard.

No, not really. Its a tool for recording, lots of game support, and post round statistics. One of the dedicated GPS units would be better suited for what you are looking for (before the shot help).

well, im not buying one of those. Im going to have the Tilt anyway and was just looking for a program that could work on it.. I would still like the stats and recording that inteligolf has, id just thought that it helped both before and after the shot, and not just one or the other.

Kinda stupid to have 2 devices because one program doesnt do both.

I have been using the non-GPS versions of Intelligolf for years. I use it for bets and statistical tracking. I use the Palm vesion on a Sony Clie. I have a separate GPS if I need a yardage.

When you find one that fits both bills, make sure to post what it is here in this thread.
