sorry to get off topic of cars, but on the dicks website, they have all the taylormade clubs listed with the country of origin being the united states. does this just mean theyre assembled here, or actually made here?

You should call and ask them. Many companies keep track of this kind of thing. Let them know you are a prospective customer and doing some research to help you decide.

Not all borders are so protected.

That's good stuff. Sometimes I feel like every hole I play takes an hour and a few seconds!

Ford's current American lineup is JUNK, except the F-150. Why they believe by reinstating the "Taurus" name is of any benefit, is complete ignorance. If anything, the name Taurus probably recalls bad memories because they were so damn unreliable regardless of it being their best selling car ever. And the worst part is that they jip their fellow americans by not selling the cars that they do in Europe. BUT FINALLY, they've decided to bring excellent cars over from the one market where they are actually making a profit. We'll be seeing these models within a couple of years (search Ford Mondeo), but they've been hot sellers in Europe for the past several.

I gotta disagree with you on that one. Ford makes lots of great vehicles. The Focus, Fusion and Edge are all selling as fast as Ford can make them and are great cars. The F-Series is great (F-150 and F-250/F-350) as is the Explorer and Expedition.

In terms of the Taurus, I dont know what you are talking about with them being unreliable. Everyone I know who ever owned a Taurus got over 200,000 miles out of it with very few problems. Cars that are junk dont sell, just ask GM. Ford's problem is the same as GM, they focused too much on trucks and big SUVs. That was fine when gas was $2.50 a gallon, but now that its $4 a gallon, those vehicles arent selling and its killing their profits. Ford will be fine though. They have several cars and crossover SUVs in their lineup that are very strong sellers and Ford has plans to convert their truck plants to making cars. They also have plans to use more common platforms for building their vehicles. The Mondeo will replace the Fusion eventually. Ford will be fine. GM will be fine too. They recently announced plans to revamp their small car lineup. The Cobalt and Malibu are strong sellers right now. Infact, the Cobalt is selling so well that GM recently added a 3rd shift to the plant where the Cobalt is made and announced their plan to convert some of their truck plants over to making Cobalts. I know its popular nowdays to put Ford and GM on the deathwatch, but I dont see either of them going bankrupt. They will adjust the product to suit the market and they will be fine.

GMs car lineup is not their problem. Their problem lies in healthcare and pension money owed.

True, but they are doing what they can to lower their operating costs. I know that people who start working at GM now will never make what the people who started there 10 years ago make.

They changed the pay scale and unless you are actually working on the line, I think the most you can make is $14 an hour. It got to be a problem because youd have the guys who do the landscaping at the plant (mowing grass) making $20 an hour. Now I think they have 2 tiers of pay and unless you are actually assembling the vehicles, you wont make the big money. IMO, thats the way it should be. Its going to be intersting to see what happens if GM can get the Volt to work. If they can make it work, it will make the Prius obsolete.

Its not their salaries either. It is the fact that they have tens of thousands of employees that still get 100% healthcare and full pensions. That cant happen and cant be fixed until bankruptcy is settled.

I was at the local golf shop today just kind of window shopping and I happened to venture over to a rack of Footjoy socks. Sure enough, right on the back of the package it said, "MADE IN USA".
I was very surprised that they are made here. Nowdays its pretty rare to see garments, especially something inexpensive like socks, made in the USA.

It's plain and simple, money. The world thrives on it and in other countries the wages are low. The quality control is non-existent. And with nothing or no one regulating them, they can give the companies in the US a better price. Does it affect quality that things are made in other countries? I think so. Look at all of the toy recalls. Look at all of the pharmaceutical recalls. Right there in itself shows everyone that these companies are not regulated and don't care for the safety and well-being of it's customers.

I like to buy products made in the US if I can, but I don't hunt for them. I buy quality products from reliable reputable companies regardless of where its "made." I take offense to the comment about the quality control in other countries. I travel to China several times a year on business and just like in the US, the quality control can range from bad to superb. Having owned a ford product I can personally attest to the pathetic quality of some made in the USA goods. As for the toy recalls? I fully blame Mattel. If you order 100,000 items from a manufacturer in China, then stamp your name on it, you better damn well make sure you test the products yourself to make sure they meet your standards. To blame the manufacturer is a cop-out. Mattel KNEW they were getting crap, because they were buying crap, approving that very crap to be sold in the US and even endorsing that crap by putting their logos on it. Let me remind you of High quality products that ARE made in China by responsible companies. 1. Apple iPhone 2. BMW 3 series (they Manufacture Chinese market cars in China, I've driven them and they are just as good as the German made ones). 3. Cleveland HiBore XL drivers etc etc I could list hundreds of products here.

    • Still working on getting to lead side. Tonight I also tried some skill work with clubface awareness.  Hit foam balls.
    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
