I recently noticed that my ball flight is a little high with my driver.

I currently have a 9.5 Nike Sumo

How much loft can be adjusted on the club?

Better to get a new one or have a clubmaker bend it to my specs?

What's the kickpoint on your shaft? You can bend the driver head but I'm not sure how much lower you can go.

It can be done but I doubt many can or will.

Tour vans can do it but many retailers are not going to be able to or even willing to. It's probably best to reshaft rather then changing the loft on the driver.

Changing the loft can aslo change the face angle, I think if you deloft, the face angle will become more open.

I am not that tech savvy with my equipment. Its funny when I see super high handicappers talking about their equipment and how they have to tweak this and that. I chuckle a little but maybe they have a point.

I had my irons fitted to me and never bothered with the Driver and 3 Wood. Should I get take my driver in and get one that is the correct shaft?

You should. I'm sure he'll extend the courtesy and not charge you for the fitting. Ask him what the effects would be of having him bend the loft versus replacing your shaft.

Based on what you stated about ball flight, he'll probably recommend a higher kickpoint shaft.

Well having equipment fitted to you will no doubt improve your scores but low handicappers generally have pretty solid and standard swings so the measurements that come from the factory are going to be pretty close. Unless you are sharter then like 5'7" or taller then 6'2" or so then the stock length and lie should be ok, now if you have an odd swing then the lie might have to be adjusted on your irons.

With woods, the shaft is about the only thing you can get fitted for. The main problem with getting fitted to a shaft is that it costs alot more then getting fitted for irons. Usually if you buy the irons new from a store they do the fitting for you, with a driver you have to spend some time at the launch monitor and buy a new shaft and have it installed. So is the average golfer going to spend say $50 for the launch monitor, $150 for the shaft and install, so an extra $200 to gain a few more yrds on their drive - which lets face it the extra yrds just means it's even further into the trouble and there is even less chance of finding your ball

Yeah the main reason I am concerned with the ball height is playing into wind screws me bad. I would like to get a more penetrating ball flight.

I have the same driver, with the same loft as well, and also having the same problem.

I'm just looking to change the shaft and not tweak anything with the clubhead. I'm currently looking at the Graffaloy Prolaunch Red and the UST Proforce V2, check those out, they both have a higher kickpoint and are designed for mid-low launch.

So there would be no advantage to just getting a driver that has a lower degree loft, and the right shaft?

Of course, its the biggest advantage. I'm just putting those options into mind in case you like your driver that much and are tight on money.

I really don't want to get a new driver, because I love mine so much, getting a new shaft should bring down the trajectory a little bit. It can also be a swing fault I have as well, I play the ball to my front foot.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
