Hi All,
I’m just wondering how my club go in forgiveness terms compared to newer clubs. I’m playing Mizuno Pro II’s. I have been looking at getting a new set for a while and every time I demo a club I can’t miss the centre (I wish I had this problem when I’m playing). It doesn’t matter what it is, I middle it, which makes it hard to know how forgiving they are. Can anyone tell me how Pro II’s compare with some new clubs; I’ve been looking at the TM R7 TP’s and the Mizuno MP 57’s.
Cheers

the mp 57's should be more forgiving than the pro ii's. the pro ii's were invented to be the cross of the blade & forgiveness of the cavity back (forgive me if i'm wrong). the mp 60 & 57 are similar in that aspect that they're more of a "players" or "pro" iron instead of a traditional full cavity back.

if you want more forgiveness...then go with the r7's..but i've never hit the pro version of them.... but at a 10.7, and your irons only being about 8 years old at most, why make the change now?

I don't think i really need to change, but i'll admit that i do like getting new things, and now i'm not a student i have money to buy clubs. I was really trying to workout how much of an improvement their has been in technology in the last 8 years. My clubs are looking pretty worn now, but they do still work well. The only thing i don't like is the knife like sole. It is so easy to hit the ball fat.

If you are thinking of changing, get fitted and try a bunch out. You will not regret it.

I would love to be able to try them all, but over here in Australia its much harder to. I can hit them in a net in a shop, but i always feel that it doesn't really tell you everything, you need to be hitting them off turf so you can see how the sole interactes with the ground and be able to see the ball flight you are getting. I always read about people getting fitted over there an wish we could get that over here.

It is all about feel. Looking at the shots are amazing, but you know the clubs that you want when you feel them. You can change the shafts to get the ball flight that you want.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
