I've been playing with a co-worker of mine who is 3 months new to golf. He's been taking lessons and we play regularly on Saturday mornings, back 9 at our local course. Anyway, he's an absolute beginner but since we've been playing regularly he decideds to kick it up a notch and play for some money. I didn't want to make him feel bad so I gave him 30 strokes overall (over mine) and he finished with a 35 over. We decided that any strokes he got under 30 I would pay him $1 per stroke and any stroke over 30 he would pay me the same. At a $1 per stroke over 30 (35), he paid me $5.

No big blow and I thought that was a decent handicap I gave him, he too. Anyway yesterday we played again, but this time he wanted to play for money again but in a skins format. He wanted 3 strokes per hole vs. my score. It seemed fine so I agreed..boy was I an idiot.

1st hole, par 3, I got a par. He got a double. So in regards to the handicapping he won with a net score of 2! I then realized what mistake I made in regards to giving him that extra stroke.

Anyway in the end I finished with 6 over. He finished 24 over. He ended winning 3 holes. Sure not a big deal, but I didn't realize how much he was in contention and won too with this extra stroke.

I told him he was a hustler..hahaha..but I'm not going to give him 3 anymore..arg

That would be hard for me to do, playing with a guy shooting that high.

Mav, in true skins format, he probably would have won all nine holes or something, right? Or did you not play with carry-overs?
