are the stakes which mark a hazard considering movable obstructions or loose impediments?

ball is in the first cut of rough, just off a water hazard on a hole with a sharp dogleg. the 2 foot stake is directly between the ball and hole and may interfere with the projected ball path. can i move the stake marking the hazard line?

i know i should know this but i don't.

Yes. It's a man-made moveable obstruction.

Just remember that OB markers (stakes, walls, fences) are deemed fixed an not movable and no relief can be taken from them.

that's why i was confused. I know OB markers can't be moved but i thought that water hazard markers could be

I thought you can only move the obstruction if it interferes with stance or swing, not the path of the ball. I know that's the case for immovable obstructions - is it not true for movable obstructions as well?

Well if it interferes with the path of the ball that close...it would have to interfere with swing.

No, that's not true at all. A 3-foot tall yardage marker 5 feet in front of where your ball lies, for example, is easily tall enough to be hit by the ball in flight.

Movable obstructions can be moved even if there's no interference.

Additionally to previous replies, note that some course committees do deem their hazard stakes to be immovable obstructions.
