Right, on the range I play off + 5, atm my ball striking is immense, the ball flight is high and powerful, going a long way and its pretty dam consistent.

On the course, I can't hit my hat.... It's driving me mad.

So I have two questions:

1: What thought processes or strategies can I put in to action on the course to improve my ball striking?

2: How can I make practise on the range harder, and really challenge myself to hit shots?

All help is very appreciated.

Thanks, JaY_B

I find it best to have NO MORE than 2 swing thoughts. But here's how I'd say the spectrum of swing thoughts look like, from optimal to least optimal.

1. No swing thoughts. 2. One swing thought. 3. One swing thought on the backswing, one swing thought on the downsing. 4. Two swing thoughts on the backswing or two on the downswing. 5. 3 or more swing thoughts.

First, always have a camcorder handy. Golfers should look at the recorder almost like their 15th club in their bag. It costs about as much as a new driver and if you can record your swing and get a decent idea of what you do when you're playing well you'll cut much more strokes and struggle less.

As far as the practice itself, I will make a big switch in clubs after awhile. Go something from hitting a driver one shot, then hitting a sand wedge on the next shot, then hitting a 3 iron, then go to driver, then 8 iron. Mainly because that's a similar fashion as to what clubs you hit on the golf course. I'll also aim at different areas on the range. Instead of hitting to the same flag over and over, I'll aim to the far left on one shot and then the very next shot I'll find a target off way to the right, because that as well emulates how hitting shots on a course works. All that being said, have some fun out there. The game is frustrating enough. Sometimes golfers take themselves too seriously and it gets them in a rut that they can't quite break out of. 3JACK Thanks, JaY_B

While on the range set targets, say you have to land 9 of 10 shots with a set area, and you don't go home until you've done it. It then puts pressure on yourself to finish in time, otherwise your going to have to buy another bucket of balls. Or you might have to be somewhere soon.
