Today I was at Target doing some shopping and I wandered over to the sporting goods department to see what they had for golf stuff.
I noticed that they had some refurbished Titleist Pro V1s in a box of a dozen that they wanted $24 for. I seem to recall Pro V1s going for almost $50 a dozen new, so that price seemed pretty good to me.
The only downside that I could really see was that their was no warranty with them.
So, is there anything really wrong with refurbished golf balls?

its definately a toss up in the air...

I frequent one of those chepo depot stores and have picked up several packs, some are perfectly fine and others have been terrible... they'll feel dead and clicky

for the right price its a good gamble, sometimes its not

Thats kinda what I was thinking too, I just wanted an opinion from some people who are more knowledgable than I am.
The other too, at a 36+ handicap, I kind of question if my game is at a level where I will notice a difference from a good ball to a junk ball...

I will say though as far as used pro-v1s from retail stores I've seen...target has the highest quality, hands down. I'll occasionally buy used pro-v1s from Sports Authority (Middle quality, $20-dozen), and Academy Sports (Low-Middle quality, $30-30ct.)...but the ones for $24 at target have been re-clearcoated and look pristine, and have played true.

I have bought used Pro V1's from an old man that sits outside of the fence on my local course. He sells them for $15 a dozen, and they have all been fine. It doesn't hurt nearly as bad when you lose them, either!

I'd keep them for holes that are iffy, because I do lose a lot of balls and there's nothing better than cheap golf balls, especially when you run through 'em

Most refurbished/remanufactured balls have been pulled from ponds and may have been sitting there for quite some time. This causes them to absorb some water and lose their playability. I would rather buy a new box of titleist nxt balls than spend the same price for refurbished pro-v1s for the same price. I always like to know that I am going to get the same response from every ball I hit and with refurbished balls, it is always a guessing game.

    • Day 159 1-19 Flow drill while attempting to add arch in wrist on downswing. Not where it needs to be but felt good working on swing flow.
    • Day 1 (19 Jan 26) - after a week lay-off due to travels, felt great to get in some drills in the backyard today.  Started with lead arm only short pitches focused on squared face and light divot post ball.  Haven’t done this in a while and it showed, with some skulls and slices.  Settled into easy flighted balls - wrapped up with standard two handed swings.  Good restart to the daily drills.
    • That depends what you do within those two.  Are they your only options?   Check out Fit for Golf if you get a moment.  It's linked on the sidebar;  I did it for two years, stopped for a really bad reason, and I plan to get back to it soon.   Mike Carroll also has a great free podcast about a lot of topics in golf fitness.
    • Day 19, 1/19.  Finished work in time to spend 25 minutes hitting balls (hit 15) indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Usual focus.
    • Day 30 - 2026-01-19 Got 10 minutes in on the mat / net working on exagerrating movements I'm working on. And grip. Also worked with my friendly AI to summarize key negative tendencies I have so that I can build a personal checklist to follow. Will do more mirror work tonight.
