So I assume you think the Mizuno is more congruent with the AP2? To be honest I really thought I'd try the AP2 but I just grabbed the AP1 and the first ball I hit was pure and I got excited right away! I really should have taken the time to hit both.

Mizunos, as Erik said, have such a wide array of "skill" level irons for all players. I think that's perfect as Erik pointed out that MX are like the AP1's and MP are the like the AP2's. Hopefully I'll work myself into the AP2's sometime next year.

OK. Went back did side by side with AP2 and Miz 57, both with Project X 5.5. Basically flip a coin. Probably made one or two better swings with the Mizuno but liked both alot. Fitter says that there's been problems with the shafts not being true to specs. Says they're more like stiff to x-stiff and that the flighted shafts are more true. Anyone heard anything like this? Not sure it matters if they perform correctly. But with my swing speed and my age (not getting younger) I'm thinking a shaft in the Reg to Stiff range is probably more appropriate. Also wondering about this fitter (?)

Yes, i have also heard that the project X shafts play stiffer than they are said to be. And i agree, considering that i have them myself.

I have the callaway x-20 tour irons with the project X 5.0 shafts. When i bought them my pro told me that i should get the regular shaft's although i have the swing speed for stiff shafts. He told me that they play stiffer than they are said to be. i have been using them for a year now and i hit them great.

That said i think you will be fine with the regular shafts

I've been waffling about upgrading my equipment knowing that I could truly benefit from the newer technology but also knowing that the cash outlay will catch me much flack from the homefront. After reading the review of the Mizuno MP-57 Irons by AO and having read the one on the Titleist AP's I decided when I went by the local retailer that I would test drive them a bit today. Wow! What a significantly different feel than what I'm currently playing. I cannot adequately describe how the ball felt coming off the club faces. I hit a couple other clubs but neither came close to the feel the Titleist and Mizuno had nor did the numbers show it. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on one of these sets but I'm not sure what the deciding factor would be. I hate to leave it to looks but I'm not finding another factor to help choose. I hate gaudy look clubs and neither is that although the Mizuno is a bit cleaner looking. Anyway, just a bit of props to the staff for their hitting the nails on the heads. Hope to have one of these sets in the bag soon.

Being someone who has hit AP1, AP2, and MP-57, I'd say they're not in the same category at all. Among those three MP-57 is the "toughest/not forgiving" irons to hit. It is, however, the better feeling irons when purely hit similar to MP-60.

With your handicap, I'd suggest you to try the ZB line to compare it with MP-57. Edit: If you want something in between Reg-Stiff, try soft-stepping PX 6.0 to 5.7 or 5.8 perhaps?

OK. I have a conclusion but no decision. Considering what I am currently playing, EVERYTHING feels better to me. Like a kid in a candy store...is there anything really bad? So, I had major free time today and I found a local store who had all the major fitting carts so I got to mix and match and hit to my heart's content. I hit Titleist, Mizuno, Bridgestone, Ping, Adams, etc. I narrowed quickly and hit mostly Titleist. The Mizuno was like one of the other posters said, when on the screws it's beautiful. For me, I was more consistent with the Titleist AP2 than anything. Although, I did swing the ZB Forged and I don't know if it was the clubs or if I had just grooved my swing at that point but they were very nice. Felt good. But like I said, at this point, everything feels good. And I was swinging the TT shafts with them. Same shaft in the AP2 was very straight. For whatever reason I tended to draw the ball more with the Proj. X. Not that that's a problem. For many, the decision would be easy at this point. For me it's not that easy in that I don't change equipment too often and I want to make an educated choice. Don't want to come back next year looking to sell/trade/buy again. But having spent a productive time at the fitting center I feel like I probably have enough info to make a great choice and won't go wrong. I do appreciate all the Sandtrapper's input because there's no substitute for experience. Thanks.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
