Alright so im planning on buying new clubs this month, and i've started taking a liking to mizuno.

I'm at about a 25 handicap and lowering so i want clubs that will last me for a long time to come. I plan on testing these clubs through a demo website so I'm not going on opinion alone, however if i can save 30 bucks by trying the better ones first thats great.

Anybody hit these clubs have any opinions or faults or anything? Also not ruling out the mx950's

do you hit it solid with your clubs now? what kind of clubs are you using? Also are you a digger or a sweeper? the clubs have similar lines, weighting, but i'd love to know what you're using now. I've played with both clubs before....

I'm using clubs i got from a friend and i believe they are "custom fit" . Thats what it says on the club. They are beginner clubs but i believe i've surpassed that level. I tend to hit it very solid and clean most of my strokes come from within 100 yards.

Occasionaly i chunk it and i get a little bit of a fade on my clubs from time to time. No where near a slice just a slight fade.

I have the MX-19 5i, and I hit it as well as a 8 iron. No complaints here.

the mx 19 is a more "forgiving" club...theoretically making it more of a "beginners" club. It has a huge center and deep cg so it helps you get the ball up faster, cleaner...even on mishits.
the mx 25 is a forged iron. it has a thinner profile than the 19. the setup is beautiful. It has a thinner top line and i think it's easier to pick the ball in the rough. the mx 19 i'd say would be a better club for a tighter lie since it's forgiving and doesn't have to be struck on the money.

the 25 would give you a better response on your shots so you know where and how you hit it on off center hits.
if you hit a slight fade and your ball striking's pretty consistent, I'd go with the mx-25's.

solid hits have more of a "true" ball flight & you'll eventually be able to control that fade as your go to shot and even turn it over and draw the ball. plus it's a club that'll give you good results...won't get you frustrated when you hit a poor shot.

think about it this way with your chunky shots.. i'm a 9.5 & I'll still hit a chunky shot at least twice in a round...and I hit a terrible 3 iron yesterday from 205 out that went about 180 straight and 30 yards right that made me drop the club b/c of the sting... bad shots happen to the best of us....i bet even the scratch golfers on here have hit a thin or chunky shot in the past week of play. it's just recovering from that...

but back to topic..i'd say the mx-25...b/c it's a prettier club...it sets up nice...but is still easy to hit.

Definitely try the 950s too. I have MX900s (same as 950s but without the hybrids) and love them. They feel so good when I make good contact. They may not be quite as forgiving as the 25s or 19s, but they are still plenty forgiving, IMO. I liked the 25s too and was going to buy them, but I found a great closeout deal on the 900s that I just couldn't pass up.

That's what i was leaning towards. I won't have to buy new irons once I get better unless i decide to switch to blades. I'm not awful as is(my short game needs some work), so i figured i'd go for the mid to low handicap irons and i believe that these will be the first ones that i demo. Thanks DJYoshi!

I vote for the 950's too. That being said, I did order 57's (7-p) and am keepin ghte 950 long irons.
Love them.

I think im going to end up going the mx-19 route. They've gotten lots of great reviews and they are cheaper. I think a thicker sole might still do me some good. Gonna demo them and see what happens.

Bought a set of 25's last fall after trying everything Mizuno had and several other brands. I was in the same position. Not a great player but wanting and willing to get better.

Personally I think the concept of forgivness is highly overrated. Sure there is a difference between a set of 60 and 19's. However between a set of 19 and 25's I don't see any huge difference. I feel the 25's are closer to a true players type club and will give you the feedback to be a better golfer.

Thats what i was thinking as well, however the 19's are alot cheaper and they are geared towards a higher handicap player such as myself. With college coming up next year i don't think im going to have too much time to golf so i dont think i will dropping anywhere below a 15 handicap in a really long time so by then i'll be ready to drop some serious cash for some good irons.

So for now im going to try the mx19's and see if i like them. If not, then back to the drawing board...

you never know Cody. This is my 2nd year. last year I was breaking 90's here and there... would blow up for a hundred every now and again. bought the mp-60's...got comfortable with my swing and in a few weeks consistently in the 80's.

College does play a big factor...but try demo'ing the clubs..and finding a good deal online on the 25's if you like them. and trust me...go with the ones you like more when you demo. I liked the mp67's more and now I wish I got them!

Well I'm trying either ones no matter what. Theres mx-25's on ebay for pretty cheap.(450-550).

Well see what happens. I got dominated today and shot a 105 , but i found a new love for my 3-iron.

    • I played in an outing a few years ago. The course was wet, and it was windy. We all did bad enough to reward us with a PCC of +1 (If I am remembering this correctly). So all of our differentials went up 1.  So, if that score is part of my best 8 out of 20. That means I am getting 1/8th of a differential improvement. For you to get a PCC, you need enough people submitting their score for handicap during that day. Let's say you were the only person who was submitting the score for handicap, odds are you are not getting a PCC.  Which is fine, because no handicap system can be that nuanced. I don't think you'd want it to be. Still, my statement is correct. It takes into account weather and abnormal difficult conditions.
    • I’ve been rather surprised how my original question relating to the logic behind “differential vs course handicap” elicited the responses expressed on this thread so far. I suppose it shows that there are many who have given this subject a lot of thought. I personally like the current system for the same reasons stated in the post by saevel25 and it works very well in our league. I just needed to get the reasoning/logic clear in my head so I could explain it succinctly to those who had questions. Regarding the ongoing discussion, the only tweak we make is only the scores made in league competition count. (We don’t use GHIN, we do the calculation ourselves.) The only additional thought I had is perhaps the powers that be can come up with a method, when doing the differential calculation, of giving greater weight to the rounds played more recently than those from 20 rounds ago. I’ve been testing this with an idea I had similar to the way colleges calculate GPA’s based on credits offered by different classes, but honestly, the complexity it adds to the calculation isn’t worth the trouble as any change made has proven to be inconsequential.
