was just wondering what the best way to check is if you are bent over the correct amount. you could be standing too tall, or too much spine angle (presuming your bending good from hips)

how do i get it right when addressing the ball?
i hit alot of blocks/pushes, and have a never ending battle with the shanks. even bigger battle trying to stop swinging outside-in.

if i remember right last time i had a lesson i was not bending over enough. the pro also mentioned my right arm was getting blocked against my hip coming down into impact. does standing too tall result in blocks? am i rotating hips too soon? what sort of swing thought can i think of to stop doing that?
handicap has taken a hammering lately, went from a index of 8.3 to a 12.5 in the space of 2 months!

thx

As far as a good drill/check to use for your posture I recommend the one demonstrated by Ernie Els in his

Complete Short Game Book (it works for checking posture for all swings). If you go to the excerpt of his book online , and advance it to page 12 you'll find the drill there. If you're standing so tall that your arms can't hang properly then your arms may be blocked by your body. Other things that can lead to the arms getting blocked is the body (chest and shoulders) out racing the arms (leaving them behind) on the downswing. The legs (and hips) moving toward the ball on the downswing can lead to the upper body rising (and/or pulling toward the ball), and that can lead to the arms being blocked as well. IMO you're doing the right thing making sure your posture is sound. Of all the fundimentals I find posture to be purhaps the greatest factor in whether I have a good ball stiking round (like my 5-under 67 on 7/13), and a poor ball striking round.

    • Day 555 - 2026-04-09 Played 17 holes (we skipped 6 to pass a group letting us through). Hit more good shots than I was expecting. 😄
    • Day 233 4-9 flow drill while focusing on better hip/chest rotation. Used mirror.
    • Comment:  Huh, I practiced regularly until 1/31, got busy in Feb-Mar (as I knew I would), and got reinspired today.  I have done some intermittent practice in the past two months, but let's get back on the daily practice wagon. Day 1, April 9 2026.  I worked on some pelvis turn limiting drills, doing one for several iterations before context switching to hit a few balls slowly (trying to retain that feeling), and repeating.
    • I’m thinking maybe Jason Day read my post. He’s sitting a -3 two off Rory and Burns.
    • Is it only the weekend broadcasts that have a low commercial count?  I feel like it has been a long while since I last watched a Thursday of the Masters, so maybe my recollection is off.  I feel today has a lot more than four minutes per hour of commercials, and far fewer of the fun stories they tell during the Sunday broadcast.
