Just wondering if there are any golfers on here that deal with chronic shoulder problems and if there is any adjustments that they make to their swing. I'm asking this because yesterday I dislocated my right shoulder for the second time (this was anterior, last one was posterior (and much much worse) and I also partially dislocated it 3 times, all in last 3 years) and I figured that while I have some "time off" I could do something like coming up with alterior swings to help prevent further damage. Keep in mind that I may have to have surgery which might help tighten the shoulder and keep it in place. I'm guessing that some of the other members have had shoulder problems at one point or another. Also keep in mind that again it is my right shoulder and I am a right handed golfer. Thanks.

I don't think that I have dislocated my left shoulder, but it often hurts like hell, especially if I've slept on my left side. It doesn't hurt when I play, but it will often be very sore after I've returned home and, sometimes, into the night. It hurts very bad when I raise my left arm straight up. I suffer no other joint issues except this one. I've run marathons with no injury whatsoever. This shoulder thing is bothersome. I fear it may be a rotater cuff problem. Sigh. Shoulder problems. I'll bet that if we came up with a Cialis-like pill for the problem we could make a fortune!

Well, I don’t have shoulder problems, but:

If you hold a golf club with only your left hand, you will find that the only way you can swing it, while maintaining good extension, is to push the clubhead back with your left shoulder, and then pull the clubhead down and through with your left shoulder. So, your left shoulder and the momentum of the clubhead do all of the swinging. Your left arm and left hand control the extension, rotation, and some of the wrist action.

Of course, to make a good swing with this type of control, you must put both hands on the club, and allow your right side to help your left side. When done correctly, this swing makes full use of the centrifugal force, momentum, gravity, and the forward kick of the shaft.

You should find that left shoulder control makes all of your other body movements automatic and synchronizes them perfectly with your arm swing, and that includes making the left hip lead.

This is the bare basics of some instruction that I have been using for a few weeks. It works great for me, but I don’t know if it works for everyone.

I thought that this might be easy on your right shoulder. You would just have to try it and see. If you have any interest in this, just put the title in on Google.

It is “The Golf Swing and It’s Master Key Explained” by Noel Thomas. The e-book is only $6.00 and has a money back guarantee. I should warn you that it has no illustrations, but it is easy to read and understand.

I hope that right shoulder gets better, and I hope you find a swing that will work for you so you can get back to playing.

    • Day 45 (27 Dec 25) - played at one of the sisters courses to my home course.  Solid session through the bag….of the 7 pars, 4 were up and down 1 putts (wedges were dialed in) from 6’ or less.  Off the tee - solid, irons were consistent even it a bit under on distances.  Course management was on - stayed the course even with a few offline recovery shots required…
    • Day 453 - 2025-12-27 Two things today for about 48 balls (I like to hit three or six balls at a time before taking a small break to pick them up): Right leg stays flexed a bit, internal rotation on the backswing. Kept my eyes looking at the ball and trusted that the backswing was fine.
    • Day 137 12-27 Worked on wider backswing today and tried to remain flowy. Recorded face on and down the line. Swing is looking better but I mentally felt off today, just frustrated. Tomorrow's a new day!
    • Day 8 - 2025-12-27 45 minutes of short game work at local muni, mostly putting work. Trying to get lots of reps in with consistent quality tempo.
    • I guess I'll stay at -16 for this year's challenge.  I never birdied holes 7, 13 (the 2 hardest holes) in 2025.  Also had a couple Eagle putts on the par 5's, but didn't convert either time.  Looking forward to 2026, though!
