Ok so lately i've been putting much attention to my driver and at the range few days back i solved it and hit at least a good 6 dead straight, being very satisfied with myself and slowly feeling more and more comfortable with my swing i have a question or two just to make sure what i'm doing is on the right track.

Is it good to basically try and copy your foreswing pattern with your backswing pattern?

i'd say they mirror each other in a way. You turn your shoulders on your backswing to take the club back and the uncoiling of your shoulders/body is what causes the downswing to occur. If you've heard of Ben Hogan's pane of glass idea, you basically are keeping the club traveling within that pane on both your forward and backswings...essentially causing them to sorta mimic each other.

I know i'm dancing around the question because i dont want to exactly say that they are or arent copies of each other...but hopefully that points you in the right direction

No. The downswing is less steep, and also goes from inside out. You execute the back swing by moving your hands, arms, shoulders, and hips in that order... and you execute the downswing by moving your hips, shoulders, arms, and hands in that order.

thats certainly a better way of answering the question

try recording your swing,

what golfers think they are doing and what they are actually doing tend to be two different things,

when you begin your downswing your hips turn to the left therefore and your hand then drop inside on a lower plane, if you turn back and forth in a mirror image it means that you are not coiling correctly or engaging the larger muscles.

clear as mud i know, record your swing and post it!

Yea that sounds much better, thx alot lately i've been having great success with my driver. Hit 333 yards with no wind yesterday, bombed it over water from the tips. Dent can back me up on that it was something ill never forget.

    • While I have practiced a decent amount in the past 6-7 weeks, once I figured I wouldn't maintain the rules of the challenge I stopped posting 😞  Anyway, I'm back and I think I'll be able to maintain!  Let's see. Day 1, 12/30/25.  10 balls with 6-iron, another 10 with a 9-iron, and a few chips with the UW and 54.  All off a mat, into a net, indoors, with real golf balls.  The will swing focus was on controlling the length of the backswing and doing so slowly.
    • Day 4: 2025.11.30 Only time for some grip work in the garden, need to film it and see if I'm making progress.
    • Day 28 (30 Dec 25) - 30 Dec - Short pitch drills in the backyard with the Gw - used it to work on setup process and making consistent contact.
    • Day 140 12-30 Arching lead wrist to close club face . Pause at top of backswing.
    • I feel like this captures where I am at. I guess the struggle for me is finding, understanding, internalizing, "the right concept". What I mean is it pisses me off thinking about all the time and money I wasted on instructors who were teaching based on bad ball flight concepts/understanding. Seeing the data/high speed video for ball flight is what convinces me how in error they were. While I think it is kind of cool to have lived through the birth and growth of competent data driven golf instruction, it is also kind of disheartening thinking about all the golfers killed or injured by incompetent instruction - which I feel is still an ongoing and concerning process.
