Going to be in Reno, NV from Aug 6 - 10. Looking for a nice course to play on Thursday. Would like it to be around $100 or less. Any sugestions on where to play? Or if any of you want to play a round on the 7th let me know.

Kick ass...I work in Reno and live 35 minutes away in Fernley. Have you ever been here?

If not...you can't go wrong with the following:

  • D'Andrea
  • Red Hawk
  • Wolf Run
  • Lakeridge
  • Arrowcreek

Those would be the semi-costly courses...all but Arrowcreek should be under $100 though. As far as a bit cheaper try:
  • Northgate
  • Wildcreek
  • Rosewood Lakes
  • Kiley Ranch (Par 3 Course)

There are a ton more options if you are willing to drive a bit also. There are a ton up in the Tahoe area then a ton more in the Carson City area.

I will actually be at Kiley Ranch on the 9th, then have a tournament at my home course in Fernley on the 10th...so I'm not sure if I could join you for a round unfortunately.

Hope you have a good time nonetheless!

P.S. - You should also check out GolfNow.com for discounted tee times over here. Sometime they offer great deals. Other times they try to charge you more than the course would itself...so be sure to check with the course first

I have never been there. 2nd time coming to reno for hot august nights.

On thursday i think i'll play at Red Hawk or D'Andrea. They are near sparks where the car show is at.

Arrowcreek looks nice but is it private? I might play friday also.

I guess i can't make a Tee time because it is only me playing. Do you know if i'll have to wait a long time to get on the course?

I would recommend Red Hawk over D'Andrea...only because D'Andrea kicks my ass. D'Andrea is closer to all the Hot August Nights stuff though.

Arrowcreek is currenlty open for public play...for a limited time. May want to call the proshop ahead of time to be sure you can get on.

If you plan on playing on the 9th, let me know as I may be able to squeeze out of the Boss's tournament...

    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.
    • Day 151 1-11 flow work today. I've been doing all pause work, so Inwanted to get some rhythm going. Recorded.
    • a) No b) This MLR says: I doubt the MLR is going to affect their weekly league games, in other words.
    • So the question was posed today by some of my friends.  Is a pitch mark the same as a divot?  I thought NO, but they argued if your ball lands in another player's divot (made by club during a swing) this was the same as a pitch mark, i.e. the ball mark made when the ball lands
    • Original definition use to or still is how far offline you hit it. It might be better to think of it as consistency in retaining favorable launch conditions to optimize distance.   That heat map showed a gigantic 0-3% loss in ball speed. That is absurd. The true 100% sweet spot is tiny for all clubs. Good luck telling the difference if the sweet spot is under 3% in a sizable area. Especially considering variation in launch angle, spin, and outdoor weather.
